[RESOLVED] Wrong 'Result Status' respectively missing entries

Hi all!

I am running tasks for 3 different projects. 2 of them are working fine and all the done work seems to be there in the tasks list.

Only for the WCG project it shows strange result counts always. I am always checking the log of the tool and there mostly the "Uploaded" count is different from the "Finished" count. On the 11th for example I have uploaded 13 tasks, but only 11 finished. Ok, maybe it has not uploaded 2 immediately the day before. However, if I check the 'Result Status' and count my tasks, then I can only see 7 tasks.
The same problem (but with different counts) I am facing every time.

In short: Most of the uploaded tasks are not counted :( It is wasted CPU time for which I do not get points and they are useless for the project.

Any idea?

I have the latest version. In the logs I cannot find any helpful information.

I think you are probably misreading the "Result Status" page. WCG does not lose uploaded tasks and no CPU time is wasted.

See this FAQ for a detailed explanation:

BOINC: Results Status page - What does xyz status mean?

Stats Also bear in mind that WCG only updates the stats twice per day, so you have to wait for some to be added.... biggrin

If you were counting uploads in the Event log as representing 'Results', I'd have to give a 7 of 9 'irrelevant'. Results can consist of multiple parts, where typically for a CEP2 has 5 and an FAAH, just checked, consists of 4. An example:

238 World Community Grid 9/12/2013 6:26:06 PM Computation for task faah102604_ZINC00001507_xPR_wC6_11_1ref9FH_00_0 finished

247 World Community Grid 9/12/2013 6:26:19 PM Finished upload of faah102604_ZINC00001507_xPR_wC6_11_1ref9FH_00_0_3

Why you don't see a start upload matched with a finished... pass. Occasionally the intertube may loose a confirmation tag to the client or it shows up later, could be hours since a back-off can easily be 3600 seconds or more, but arrived they have all as soon as a 'Ready to Report' appears in the Tasks view, and 'that', is the important bit.

Would task reports be lost, these remain in an 'In Progress' state until the 'Ready to Report' is cleared [which can take up to 24 hours, by design, which I wont enter into discussing here as to why]. If the result would not get reported within deadline, usually 10 days, the 'In Progress' changes to 'No Reply'. If returned past deadline possibly to 'Too Late'. Long as you don't see those on your Result Status pages, you're hunky dory, you can stop counting and 'Trust' the system, certainly when all eventually pass into a 'Valid' status, no matter what alarmistic signals you may observe on the client side.

@Admin, they are kindly asked to move this to the BOINC Support forum.

Re: Wrong 'Result Status' respectively missing entries

Thanks all, and special thanks to SekeRob for these valuable hints!

I still have doubts, but I will monitor it again and will try to reproduce/understand the results (count).

regards

Re: Wrong 'Result Status' respectively missing entries

Hi RichardLux,
you should not have any concern.
SekeRob described perfectly how WCG works.
After many years and over 335'000 results, I can confirm that WCG is absolutely reliable in terms of WU distribution and collection.

Since you do not know every details about how the WCG platform works internally, it is not easy to consolidate your own observation.

Thank you for contributing,
Yves

Re: Wrong 'Result Status' respectively missing entries

If it would be a general problem, then this forum would be full of such threads, but I am not saying that it is a general problem and it does not seem to be a general problem according to you all smile

However, give me some time (some weeks) to get rid of my doubts. If my "problems" continue to exist, I will come back to you all wink

(I think this thread can be closed or marked as done/resolved)
