Interesting Read

WASHINGTON US scientists said Thursday they have built the world's most precise clock, whose ticking rate varies less than two parts in one quintillion, or 10 times better than any other.

The clock, made from the element ytterbium
The physicists built their ytterbium clocks using about 10,000 rare-earth atoms cooled to 10 microkelvin (10 millionths of a degree above absolute zero) and trapped in an optical lattice made of laser light.

Re: Interesting Read

uh... and does this clock have a special use or purpose (like the popup clock on a quantum computer tongue ) or was it built "just because it could"? Seems a tad too precise for getting to a party on time. laughing

Re: Interesting Read

Nap, I'm terribly sorry if you didn't get my joke - yes, I certainly found the article (and also found it interesting), although thought it would be humourous to try and raise a laugh.

I'm ever so sorry you misinterpreted this, and I'll certainly have second thoughts over having a joke with you in the future.

Yours, (from now on) a very serious gb009761...
