Morning All
----------------------------------------![]() 17 Years for FA@H ![]() Had a Stray Grey Tom Cat come to our house the other day, never seen him before, found him curled up asleep behind the washing basket... Strangly enough, my 3 cats (all females), where layed down in front of the basket and didn't like my wife going near it.. We have never seen this had this behaviour before which is what promted wy wife to investigate further. Initially, after discovering him my wife kicked him out... Next day (yesterday morning), I came home from work and found him asleep on the sofa, again surrounded by my 3 who didn't like me approaching him. He wasn't Feral, but I have never seen a cat in such a bad state before (we only have rescue cats and I have seen some bad conditions in my time). He had 0 fat (including on his tail), just skin and bone, very subdued, his back legs could hardly weight bare, he had some flea's but not covered in them and he was losing the fur all along his spine and had had an injury at some point to the back of his neck.... But his nose, my god, it was 3 times the size that it should have been. I gave him small but regular feeds (top quality cat food, non of this felix stuff), and he perked up a lot (much to the annoyance of my 3 who also wanted more food), he even started to fuss me and eventually began to purr.. I contacted Cats Protection and with their assistance our local Vet checked him out.. I said that if he was given the All Clear I would be his foster (while investigations went on to try and locate his true family), and I would take over ownership of him if non could be traced. No Chip was found, but it was found that he does have FIV (HIV version in Cats). He is now in Isolation at a local Cats Protection Centre while they try to trace his true family (it was obvious that he had been abandoned), they are also performing a full blood scan to confirm FIV (rather than the On-The-Spot test which can be wrong), but unless that FULL test comes back negative (in which case, he will be coming home to me), he will be put to sleep. Sorry if this seems a little Off Topic, but I had to tell someone, I only knew him for less than a day, but him possibly dying of this and possibly having to be put to sleep has really affected and upset me ![]() ![]() I really hope that something comes from this FA@H research that can help Humans & eventually Animals as well and I just want to say how much I now respect Cats Protection, their love and compassion took me back... Based on previous dealings with the RSPCA, I had little hope of assistance and help from Cats Protection but they have gone above and beyond for him and us and I am now going to look at becoming an active supporter of theirs (I don't have time to do much, but I will do what I can). It has also changed my mind about stopping FA@H when I reach 20 years, I'll now keep on pumping WU's regardless of targets and badges (although that said, FA@H WILL be the first project I've got to 20 years on). Sorry if I've bored anyone and thankyou for reading this long post ![]() Edit: Forgot to add, Cats Protection need to try and trace the previous family to: 1) Have him legally signed over to them (and then me???). 2) Inspect the condition of any other animals within their care? 3) Possible legal action against the previous owners for mis-treatment.... Not to hand him back to them (when they came to pick him up from me even they where shocked at his condition), and their investigations are more through then just looking for a Chip, a chip is just stage 1 of a trace. We named him Gandalf the Grey.. Due to his colour, his huge nose and the love in his eye's and in his manner... I am not overly religious, but I find myself praying that the 2nd lot of tests are Negative as I want him back. ![]() ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by themoonscrescent at Jan 29, 2015 6:46:25 AM] |

Well done hope all goes well. ![]() We are a cat family with two lovely 10yr old queens and we have been fully assimilated by them. ![]() We feed the birds as well, as we get magpies, crows, grey tits to name a few plus the odd hedgehog. |

@TMC - also hoping the tests are clear for that ol' pudtat. I am currently owned by one black furry madam. After what "Gandalf" has been through, he needs and deserves that comfy home of yours.
----------------------------------------Fingers crossed for the furry purry chap! |
