Re: LunchCrunch Report

@jonnieb - It looks like most of that record may be due to a huge catch up of my wingmen,

I think you're right.

Your average lunchcrunch in December prior to to Dec 26 was 151.3. Then Dec 26 121.5, Dec 27 102.8 Dec 28 402.1!

I'm just hoping that you don't exceed 999.9 for the whole day since that would definitely break the reporting spreadsheet! wink

Re: Morning Update III

Hi guys, just read that Clear Energy 2 does not safe results as l power down my PC when finished at night.

Would it be wise to select another project?

Also apart from having your CPU at 100% usage are there any tips you can give us new guys on crunching.

Thanks.

Many congrats Chris on that first badge, always pleasing to get the first one.

As for CEP2, I run CEP2 and if I need to do a proper shut down or restart then I do manually check when each unit did a checkpoint then suspend it having already set BOINC to not get any new tasks. Then when the CEP2 units have been saved with a minimal amount of crunch loss the computer is shutdown/restarted and then re-enable new tasks.

Normal day to day running I use the Hibernate option on my Win7 machine. I suspend all crunching then hibernate which means that when I start the computer back it, it resume from the hibernation and then crunching continues therefore no loss of work occurs. CEP2 can have hours of work between checkpoints so by doing this I rarely lose any progress, obviously if I have a power cut while crunching then not much I can do about it and will suffer a loss.

Also using hibernation saves your progress to the hard drive and so power cuts are not a problem, using the Sleep option is very similar but it saves your current Windows session to memory so does require constant power, albeit a low amount.

Hope this helps.

CEP2

@ KrisUK

genhos covers the checkpointing issue specific to CEP2 well in his post.

Two other points to consider in relation to CEP2:

In settings Device Profiles there's a section towards the bottom Project Specific Settings
Number of workunits per host for
The Clean Energy Project - Phase 2? Avoid using 1 - Default as this can result in a false error which claims "insufficient bandwith".

Also
CEP2 is very resource intensive and running multiple CEP2 WUs on a machine can degrade overall crunching performance and/or the performance of the machine itself. Establishing what works for you is a matter of trial and error. If you're ok running more than 1 CEP2 WU at the same time you might need to add an app_config file to limit the number of concurrent WUs that can run. Search the CEP2 forum for detailed information or post again here.

Can't believe you poked the bear with a stick jonnieb-uk (it was for a good cause though). Might be worth starting the updates now.

Early analysis of the Morning Update which follows suggests that whilst yesterday was a Record day the culprit in the recent skewing was MCM1 not OET1! thinking
