Re: Morning Update II

Well, have had confirmation from a potential co-location company that their advertised "un-metered power allocation" is completely un-metered and doesn't contain a fair-usage policy, as long as the server has a single motherboard and a single PSU.

So, after sorting a few other things out (having a new electric boiler fitted at home, primarily), I can then look at spec'ing up the "monster" server. Given the single-motherboard restriction mentioned above, I can either look at getting a dual-Xeon or a quad-AMD; am tempted to stick with the latter, current plan for the spec is as below:

Chassis: 1U SC818ATQ+1400
Motherboard: Quad AMD Opteron 6000 H8QGI+
CPU: 4 * AMD Opteron 6376 (16-core 2.30GHz)
RAM: 16 * 4GB DDR3 PC3-12800 1600MHz (64GB total, 16GB per CPU)
RAID: LSI 9211-4i HBA SAS/SATA 4-port RAID-0,1,10,JBOD
HDD: 2 * 250GB Western Digital VelociRaptor 10k RPM
PSU: 1400W 80plus (Platinum) 95% High-Efficiency
Extras: Telescopic railkit included
Warranty: 1-year Next Working Day on-site-maintenance

That should do the odd few work-units, but the spec is liable to minor changes, depending on how things look once I've got the boiler sorted...

15:45: There seems to be a (transient) problem with the (SN2S) validator!

[edit] 17:55 Cleared. Transient it was! biggrin

Re: LunchCrunch Report

Hi, SnaxMuppet here!

I just discovered this thread and as I am on some of the ranks I thought I'd say hi.

Most of my servers are on Windows Azure and so I have been adding VMs to use up my free credits during the trial and now I have regular allocations from my Microsoft subscription so I am using that at the moment.

It is all going to a good cause so while I don't need Azure for myself I am using up the CPU time on WCG.

3) Azure VM - Linux Centos7, 2 cores, 2GB Ram, dedicated 100%

Re: LunchCrunch Report

Welcome SnaxMuppet.
Out of curiosity, and this also goes to everyone, how did you find the UK team?
I found it on the free-dc and boincstats websites and then the team forum thread.

...Thargor is the resident VM expert. wink

Not sure I'd go that far, but thanks! biggrin

Currently using VMWare/ESXi (one 8-core VM on a single shared dual-quadcore host and five four-core VMs on another clustered-platform, all running debian squeeze (6.0)), but looking to convert some of the physical hosts over to CloudStack/KVM as the licensing is a lot more friendly (although the initial setup of the cluster is a serious pain in the proverbial...).

Welcome to the team, SnaxMuppet! smile
