Dave you comment about 1`% European Jewish is understandable. A survey of blood samples taken in the early 2000's showed that there was significant genetic markers for Mongolian blood. Hmmm Perhaps Douglas Adams knew something a lot of us did not know back in 1978 when he wrote H2G2 where one of the early characters, Mr Prosser, did indeed descend from Genghis Khan. ![]() I think I'm descended from Attila the Nun, domonijo. My stats generator seems to have survived the largest upgrade for several months, so I'll add another league table to the website and include the UK ranking in the signatures soon.

Good Morning All!
----------------------------------------Stats seem to be somewhat of a problem for a few of the providers; What with BOINC Synergy going down a month or so ago, SNURK having a failure while on holiday and now FREE DC (the provider of my middle signature) off line for a couple of days, the house of cards seems to be falling. Good job we have yours Dave We all know the characteristics of Gengis Khan domonijo, indeed it was a matter of pride in Khazakhstan to claim descendancy from either the 'Silver Horde' or the 'Golden Horde' but Dave 'Attila the Nun'? I'm not sure what picture that conjures. Perhaps you meant 'Attila the Pun' who rushed through Europe and killed all the jokes. .

That, and a degree of paranoia (the entire virtual computer on which it is running is backed up a couple of hours before the stats run, so I can instantly revert it if the calculations go horribly wrong). The only time problems are likely to occur are if the WCG web servers go offline for more than a day. That will cause a discontinuity in the data that could take up to 28 days to work its way out. So far that hasn't happened. I'm probably more like Genghis Khan't, a slightly less proactive Mongolian who lived around the same time ![]()

I've added UK ranking to my signatures (for those who have admitted to being British), and I've also added the team member join date order.
----------------------------------------I've looked through the signatures and I think the longest-standing member currently contributing is MABramwell, the 20th joiner. Captain Crooks is a bit of a Johny-come-lately ![]() Edit 1: yes, I know some signatures (e.g mine) are grammatically challenged. Too tired/late to do anything about it now! Edit 2: fixed it ![]()

Good morning all.
----------------------------------------I had the first part of my eye op yesterday. Only an injection but I scarcely believed the lengths that were taken to prepare me for it. It started a couple of days ago with a course of anti microbial drops (1 drop every waking 3 hours). I had to 'fast' for 8 hours before the op and take no liquids for 6 hours before. On arrival at the hospital yesterday I spent a happy hour filling in consent forms (signature AND thumbprint). I was then ushered to a preparation room where a complete change of clothes was waiting for me (remember this is only an eye injection!). Blood pressure is taken and a cocktail of eye drops sluiced into my eye. I'm then hooked up to a drip for 30 minutes (some form of opiate I believe) before being led (drip in hand) to the operating theater. I am rigged up with the instruments that go beep and then strapped firmly - head to toe - onto the couch while the staff (at least 5 of them) practice their English on me (a captive teacher at last!). It is always at this point that you need to scratch your nose - try asking for that in Spanglish. Finally the injection (painless) is given. I'm unstrapped, un-wired and placed in a wheelchair and pushed to the prep room to change back to my civvies. I'm then handed a 6 part prescription for antibiotics, painkillers (including an injection complete with glass phial, needle and syringe) and even more eye drops and pointed in the direction of a pharmacy and sent out into the (by now) Santa Cruz night. Total time - 4 hours! God only knows how long the Cataract operation will take. Anyway - I'm back up running today although full enough with pills to be able to rattle as I walk. I can't wait for the next episode!

Good afternoon everyone.
Rod, sounds a bit 1984'ish with procedure for preparation. Hope part two is soon and get your sight back to full working order. From personal experience the "halos" around bright lights and the moon can be akin to my more "younger days hippie-ish" that is to say sillier times. Again all the best. ![]() |

Sounds like they're doing a thorough job Rod. Best wishes for the actual operation.

Thanks guys for your good wishes. It will be nice to be able to use my telescope and my cameras manual focus again without seeing UFOs crossing my line of sight. I'm feeling a bit stupid at the moment (don't need mind altering substances for that feeling!) sitting here in front of my computer wearing the darkest shade of sunglasses (prescription) known to man. In fact I think that they are a form of fashion conscious welders goggles. Now, where did I put my white stick!
