Hi Guys,
----------------------------------------Got my new 4P Opteron 6174 put together and ready for service, just wondering is it advisable to run Linux or Windows in this situation? I understand Windows is faster for "normal" PCs but has anyone else got a system like this and can they comment? Thanks. ![]() |

Why not set it up to dual boot and try out each one to see how your system performs ?

I'm coming from a background over at F@H and I don't want to slow the project down through experimentation, if I try both how to do I stop requesting new Work Units so that I don't have ones that the server it waiting for after finishing the current units.

48 threads, NICE!
---------------------------------------- . Do your research on projects since those processors are lower speed. Some will crunch better than others. Always thought about a 4P system. Have had dullies for awhile now. Enjoy the new toy. How about some photo's?
Crunching for humanity since 2007!

Cheers That is an easy one. Just go to the advanced view in Boinc manager, go to the projects tab and press the button which says"No new tasks." The button will change to "Allow new tasks" so when you want more tasks again you press it again. It will then change back to say"No new tasks." It is like a toggle switch. Cheers

Sure thing, is these a hardware forum or something I should post them into instead? Pity no GPGPU projects at the moment... I've got 4 Rigs,
----------------------------------------3930k @ 4.4 + 2x GTX 690 = Daily driver, running 10 threads on WCG + 4 F@H GPU Units, 2x 3770k @ 4.4 + 2x 780 GTX = Dedicated folding/WCG rigs. 12 Threads WCG / 4 GPU F@H. And now 4P 6174 that I'm overclocking from 2.2 o 2.5~ that I'll place on WCG until I earn my badges then prbably use it for F@H. Edit: Thanks Joe will hit that and let WU's finish before switching OS. ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Thanassos at Jul 19, 2013 3:09:35 AM] |

Hi,
----------------------------------------DSFL, SN2S and FAAH Vina will definately run a lot faster if you install Linux 64 bits. As for CEP2, I believe Windows is slightly better. The normal FAAH work units probably only have minor variances(no idea though). ![]() - AMD Ryzen 5 1600AF 6C/12T 3.2 GHz - 85W - AMD Ryzen 5 2500U 4C/8T 2.0 GHz - 28W - AMD Ryzen 7 7730U 8C/16T 3.0 GHz |

Some pics as requested,
----------------------------------------Once I got it all plugged in and overclocked them from 2.2 > 2.64 I need to add fans around the sockets to cool the VRMs as well! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Very impressive setup.
----------------------------------------I would recommend suspending the motherboard on 1"machine screws and nuts to get airflow on through the bottom of the board. ![]() |

How many db ?
---------------------------------------- Maybe, only one ventilator per ventirad would be sufficient. It is important to put the board in a case in order to ensure a proper (better controlled) airflow. Enjoy, Yves |
