Invalid results clarification

Hey guys,

I've been getting some invalid results on 2 of my computers and I'd like to a bit of help. I have the following line in each of the result logs that are invalid.

dyld: DYLD_ environment variables being ignored because main executable (/Library/Application Support/BOINC Data/slots/1/../../switcher/switcher) is setuid or setgid

I've done a comparison between my results and the two other that are considered valid and the above line is the only sensible difference between them. This only happened for the DSFL project, my other results are ok - but I've only joined about a month ago, so I'm not sure what to think. smile

I'm running the 7.0.65 client version on Mac OS X 10.8.4 if it helps.

Thanks!

Re: Invalid results clarification

Hello abc13,
Looks good to me, but I have never seen
dyld: DYLD_ environment variables being ignored because main executable (/Library/Application Support/BOINC Data/slots/1/../../switcher/switcher) is setuid or setgid

This seems to indicate a problem with the work unit data slot on the hard disk. Everything about your hard drive in BOINC Messages looks good, though it is odd to see only 16 GB free on a 930 GB drive. SekeRob sometimes asks about anti-virus applications because he sets his not to scan the BOINC DATA directory so it will never set a lock on the data while BOINC is trying to write to it. My anti-virus is less paranoid because I am less paranoid, so I don't bother with that.

Re: Invalid results clarification

Hi Lawrence,

Free disk space was at its lowest at that point, now there's about 30GB of free disk space remaining (I'm a hoarder, I know blushing ). However, the computer has never run out of disk space and I see these invalid results from my other machine as well which is well below 50% of disk utilisation.

As for the antivirus, I'm not running one on either machine, so that is out of the question.

Thanks,
Joe

Re: Invalid results clarification

Hi abc13,

I am also receiving lot of invalids in VINA projects (currently only DSFL, but also in SN2S and GFAM in past) on my Mac (even thought there are much less of them in last 2 months comparing to last year).

There is nothing to be done with it - we have 2 possibilities: 1. learn to live with them (receiving full run time and half of points) or 2. crunch other projects (FAAH only ATM) wink

Cheers peace

Re: Invalid results clarification

Lets 'consider' that the herewith linked past single reported incident, could be the closest to the cause! No need for memory consultation, no guessing, just Total Rekall with use of the advanced search machine [study link to see how 'current' report was excluded from search] ;>)

Re: Invalid results clarification

P.S. Now what would be the likely solution if so? As BOINC 7.0.31 is the minimum for Mountain Lion installation, so is members upgrading to ML [or up] working towards reducing chance of Inter-OS-X versions Result incompatibility for VINA using sciences [which FAAH will also be doing in the proximate future].

On my side: over 20 invalid results by one host (Phenom II x6, Ununtu 10.04 x64), WU:
