I'm a new member from China ,and have got some porblems while taking part in WCG. Partly because English is not my mother language.
I hope someone can help me with the fallowing questions: 1st. What's the default file directory of disk space for WCG storage? 2nd. How to change that file directory? 3rd. How to change the Device Profile Name? Thanks a lot. |

----------------------------------------1. this is the directory you installed the WCG Client i think .. 2. you cant change the directory .. but you can uninall the WCG Client and install it in another drive oder directory 3. the Device Profile Name is your network computer name .. if you have Windows XP you can change it in the Systemproperties of your Controlpannel (i hope this is the right translation that what i mean ;) ) |

Welcome to the WCG and to the forums.
----------------------------------------1) The directory for the WCG is \Program Files\WorldCommunity\Grid 2) I don't think the system will function correctly if you change that directory name. 3) You can change the Device Profile name.. If you are talking about just changing the device name you can do that by going to "My Grid" and then "My Device" and then click on the device name. This will take you to the "Device Manager - Device Configuration" you can change it there. If you want to change the Profile name, you need to create a new one...at this same location (using "Edit Device Profiles) giving it the name that you want and then assign your device(s) to that new profile. Thus abandoning the profile "Default" Hope this helps. Perhaps one of the Developers will come by and will know how to change the directory name but I kind of doubt it. Wind_Guardian -- First of all, let me welcome you to the WCG. It is a wonderful international community and I hope that you enjoy participating and contributing to the betterment of humanity in the months to come. Now for your questions. The default file directory used by the WCG software is C:\program files\WorldCommunityGrid. During installation, I was able to change the drive specification and actually installed mine in a different partition and on my system it is D:\program files\WorldCommunityGrid. It may be possible to change the name of the directory in addition to the drive specification during the install process. I am not sure that you can change the name of the directory after installation. I believe that there are system registry items which point to the directory. To change Device Profile names, click on "My Grid" above and then click "Device Manager" in the list that will appear in the left column. You will then be able to create new Device Profiles as well as change the name of the Device Profile which your system uses. If you make such a change, it will not become effective until your system downloads its next work unit. Best Regards, |

To confirm the answers above:
1st. What's the default file directory of disk space for WCG storage? The default install directory is "C:\Program Files\WorldCommunityGrid\" 2nd. How to change that file directory? Uninstall the program. You can do this with the Control Panel Add/Remove programs. You can also uninstall by running the agent download file. Then install the agent again. When it gets to the "Select Installation Folder" window, you can create a different folder at the location of your choice. 3rd. How to change the Device Profile Name? To change the profile and create a new profile for your machine, you need to log into the web site and go to "My Grid", then "Device Manager", and then "Device Profiles". There you can create a new profile with a new name and assign it to you device. Thank you for joining! We hope to get many more members in China. |
