Looooong WU

My current WU has been running 64 hours so far and is still only 79.1% done. In the last 24 hours, it has only completed 1.1% additional. If it continues at this rate, it may take several weeks to complete.

Can I somehow have gotten a bad WU, or is it just a particularly tough protein to fold?

smile Hi Jim
You have reached a complex part as you suggested
Just be patient as it will get past this part and complete
If it helps I has a WU last month that took 18 hours to get to 95% and a further 7 hours to complete the last 5%

Re: Looooong WU

Yes. Please be patient with it. It will most likely finish much sooner than weeks form now. The work unit folds the given protein many times in different ways and some of the folds turn out to be especially difficult and slow while others within the work unit will go much quicker.

I keep an eye out for problem work units and will notify you via the Member News or Known Issues forum if anything comes up requiring special action on your part. Thanks for paying attention though. Many times members are helpful in noticing potential problems before we get around to checking status.

Re: Looooong WU

Graham and Viktors,

Thanks for the encouragement. This one really started moving along today and finally finished after 69 hours, 50 mins, after so little advancement in the last two days! smile

Re: Looooong WU

I've had WU complete in a matter of a hour or two and the longest ran 4days and 19 hours+ back in January. I've paid attention to the size of the WU being downloaded and have seen 1MB+ run in a few hours and <0.5MB run almost 2 days. Seems to all depend on the complexity of the particular protein you get - and complexity <> size. As long as I see the scores changing on the application page and the percentage, which shows in tenths of a percent there, change after a while, I just let things run - however long it takes. WU's that run for more that 2 days are rather rare but can happen.

Re: Looooong WU

Hello there,

One of my machines is 98.7% through a work unit after 139 hours 4 minutes, which is the longest time I've seen since I joined the grid in December. Mind you, it's only a slow PC (PIII 450MHz), but together with the other 15 of them it makes a useful contribution plodding along while my faster machines accelerate away from them!

Keep crunching. I've reached rank 169 on points, with a personal target of 100.

David.
