I saw that installing WCG as a service means that the GPU won't be used...
----------------------------------------Note: Do NOT use the protected application execution installation in Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Windows 8, or any of the Windows Server versions if you also want to use a GPU for crunching. The GPU will not be detected when BOINC is installed as a service. See the CUDA/CAL FAQ for more on that. What is the best way to install WCG on a Windows 7 box, so that a user doesn't have to log into the machine and WCG will still use the GPU? Background: My father-in-law has an old desktop with a graphics card that is supported. However, he never actually logs onto the computer but he does reboot it once a week. Is there a way to install WCG to run on start up but not require him to actually log onto the computer? ...  |

When it says there is not, there is not... no backdoor work around. If only there was.
Of course, you can set auto-logon, but anyone security minded would not do that. More but, maybe and auto-logon works and you can deploy a password protected screensaver, has to be empty/black/inert as they interfere with GPU crunching, though that is a generalized observation. Don't know if this applies to all GPU's [the most powerful probably could have an active screensaver]. That said, the nature of the beast, GPU projects do not provide graphics FAIK. Anyway the 'blank' with password is recommended as least risk. |

Of course there are different forms of security. I rely upon physical security of the PCs. All the desktops/laptops in the house do not have passwords and BOINC manager is set to launch on start-up. Security is provided by the fact that my doors are always locked and no one gets into the house!
