WCG seems to stop computation when I restart my computer at the end of the day, usually about 11 or 12 pm. And the message states "suspending network activity--user request". Today it was stopped from 12:55:19AM to 8:00:35AM. I don't know how I 'requested' no work to be done when the computer is on and not in use.

Sounds like a power saver mode kicking in.

Hello Brigid Wendover,
Look at your profile. For example, what hours have you set for it to run? This sounds like a user setting problem. Also, look at BOINC Manager - Activity and BOINC Manager - Advanced - Preferences. Lawrence |

If it's power saver, can I change my preferences for it to run?

I allow "when computer is in use" . No hours set. Most of my preference are probably default.

Hello Brigid Wendover,
Power Saver is a computer setting, not a BOINC setting. As for BOINC settings, the problem is that there is no easy way to post your settings here. Let us start by your pasting the start of your BOINC Messages, the first 30 or 40 lines of the file. This gives some of your BOINC information. Lawrence |

There's at least 2 possibles when BOINC goes to sleep for energy saving reasons:
----------------------------------------1) You've got the power savings profile selected meaning that BOINC will go to sleep after X minutes of absent user input [default 20 minutes]. 2) Understood from techs that their W7 devices in iBM do go to sleep anyhow if powersaving is set in the OS/System i.e. BOINC wont keep things awake. At all times, if BOINC goes to sleep there are log entries why it is doing this [OS or user request]. But, in your case, it's the other default setting of 25% non BOINC system load. I've got it set to 35% on my Ubuntu system and tests have shown to 50% on Windows actually is the better level [got my W7 systems on 75%]. All pre-set device profiles except "maximum output" have this field on either 25% or 50%. The setting is only active if "Run based on preferences" is selected in the Activity menu of BOINC Manager. The override is set by changing "While processor usage is less than xx %" to zero [as it says in the preferences screen]. edit(2): By the look of the global prefs date/timestamp (1969, a Unix thing), the absence of a local preference override log entry and this... 5/25/2013 12:50:55 AM suspend work if non-BOINC CPU load exceeds 25 % ... it seems like you've never modified any preference and are just running with defaults/"standard" presets. Best is to change the entry on the website profile by selecting custom, and the mentioned field, if you wish to. Then on next client/server communication the change will be transmitted. Go there by visiting My Grid > Device Manager > Device Profiles > Standard > Custom. When done hit save. (Think there's a video for the navigation in Help). Hello Brigid Wendover,
Thanks for showing this. You ought to change your profile. Set your CPU usage to 100%. Running just one task on a desktop will not cause overheating. Make sure that Leave Application in Memory is set to ON. 5/25/2013 12:50:55 AM suspend work if non-BOINC CPU load exceeds 25 % I use a CPU load of 90% as a limit. Set that to al least 75%. After all, BOINC is running at lowest priority so it simply goes inactive while something else runs. Going to all the trouble to unload memory by suspending BOINC should hardly ever be necessary. Which is why I choose 90%. Otherwise the suspension takes more time than it saves.5/25/2013 1:10:48 AM Windows is suspending operations This really looks like Windows OS Power Options. Click on Control; Panel, then on System and Security. This should bring up a long list that includes Power Options. Changing Power Options can be frustrating because it is so easy to find things going to sleep against your will. I run on the High Performance plan.5/25/2013 1:10:49 AM Suspending network activity - user request Lawrence |

Thanks! I'm getting many more results now and running all night. I set WCG at 100% of the processors and for the computer to never sleep.
