Hi everyone!
I'm sure there is an answer for my issue, but I can't seem to find it after searching the forums. Just under a week ago, I noticed that whenever I wasn't around, that wCG/BOINC would stop processing a work unit (and in some cases, go backwards in calculation). Not sure what is causing this. I've tried stopping the work unit (making sure the LAIMS is turned off), I've rebooted (this is windows). I've reloaded from the web page and local files. I've upgraded the BOINC software and tried various configuration changes. All I can see in the logs is a message saying "Suspending computation - no recent user activity". I also believe this is not an isolated incident as I tried installing on another computer with the same results. I have not modified my configuration in over a year so I'm kind of at a loss (especially with the second computer). Note that both these computers sit idle (well, a few background processes, but nothing that changed in the last two months) most of the time. I don't see anything in the default profile that would cause this issue, so I'm turning to the community for help. Computers are both windows (although one is XP and one is Windows 7). The units that were being worked on were faah WU. Currently running BOINC v7.0.64. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks. |

Hi Number-Cruncher,
I can think of 2 possibilities. 1) Your BOINC profile at My Grid - Device Manager - (Selected Profile) may have this line under Processor Usage: "Stop work after computer is idle for: X minutes" with X set to a non-zero value. I use 0.0 minutes, which means never stop. 2) Your Windows Power Options may be putting your system to sleep. I don't think so because you should describe that situation differently. Lawrence |

Update: I tried changing profiles (to home and work and school) and it still doesn't work. I'll troubleshoot again tonight when I have time and let everyone know. Thanks.

Hi Number-Cruncher,
I am uncertain why you would change from Home to Work, etc. Changing the instructions within a profile and saving the changes to your custom profile is what is needed. Note that you must choose 'Custom profile' to make any changes. Otherwise the profile keeps the old values. I always start with the high-performance values, then customize them. Better paste a copy of your messages after startup so everybody can see what sort of system you are running. Lawrence |

I think I got it fixed and it does appear to be related to profiles.
I did set up the profiles as I have in the past, also had work computers hooked up and computing after hour when no-one was in the office. It appears that all my non-default profiles decided to stop working properly. After deleting them and ensuring that my main workstation was on the default profile (and that I didn't have any local settings) everything works. I am trying this on my second workstation to see if it'll do the same thing. I might still create a work profile sometime in the future as when I move on from my current job, I could use it again, but I'm not going to tinker with anything until I know for sure. |
