confused Question About CheckPoints

How many CheckPoints does one wu have? 3?15?At which percentage?

Whether the finished checkpoint parts would be uploaded before the wu completed and lower the remaining time of the wu although the progress bar backs off (after I restart my computer)?

The checkpoints vary per project. The checkpoint parts are NOT uploaded before the WU is completed. The CEP2 project has checkpoints that can be hours apart.

Re: Question About CheckPoints

Hi Redbird10, There are 16 'jobs' within a complete CEP2 WU - and, unfortunately, checkpoints can only be taken after each of these jobs have finished.

Some of these 'jobs' can be relatively short - although the third one in particular, is extremely long running, and thus, one of the main reasons why this particular project is an 'opt-in' project (i.e., only really suitable for those who can leave their computer on and crunching for long, sustained periods). After this third job, there are a number of shorter jobs before the thirteen job - which, again, is notably long.

As far as I understand, the results of previously completed 'jobs' feed into subsequent 'jobs', and thus, they're unable to be uploaded before the entire WU completes (which, is either after all 16 jobs have finished/exited early or the 12 hour processing time-limit has been reached).

Re: Question About CheckPoints

Good explanation, gb009761. Yes, all the 16 jobs are different tables about the same molecule. The tables are in order of importance and there are only tiny differences from one giant molecule to the next, so we do not need all 16 tables for each consecutive molecule. Even if many molecules only have, for example, 12 result tables, we can extrapolate and decide whether or not this is an interesting region of molecule space for our purposes.
