Bummer..... Had to pull the notebook off WCG.... Darn thing was running a bit warmer than I like. So I sent it over to Dimes. Still have questions about that one, But better to still be doing something.

I found that Dimes will coexist with WCG....it only runs when you are connected. My graphics gets confused when running both the large dimes screen and large WCG screen. Only view one at a time, and shrink the other....keep dimes shrunk when sending in results to WCG.

It's a trade-off. I tried running DIMES connected overnight a few times, but it took some cycles away from WCG. Dimes seems to take between 2% and 20% and jumps around...it uses the most when tracing a route. I'm doing some of both on the same machine. It's connected to the main phone line, so must keep it open during the day.

I pushed it until I got 10,000 for a brown star, and will slack off a bit over there and give more to WCG. I still leave dimes there in the task bar so it will run when connected, of course. While WCG is "preparing results", dimes goes to town.

I saw a message that said that somebody had their laptop sitting on a metal pie rack...elevated it and helped the cooling. Another got one of those cooling pads made for laptops.

WCG also has a throttling feature for WinXP, unlike grid.org. If it's still a problem running the laptop at 100%, you can give it less....like 25% (runs 4 times longer)

All you have to do is type in a percentage for an environment variable

If you don't want to do that, then the vultures over at dimes appreciate all the raw meat you can throw at them.
