Hey, I'm new to this so sorry if this is 1. in the wrong forum section and 2. not a real issue.
75% of the work my computer does receives the "error" status once submitted. Is this common or is my computer not up to the task of computing and returning bad quality results. Thanks! |

Hi, welcome to WCG and the forums.
What type of work is this... Help Conquer Cancer on GPGPU? I've had the experience of tasks crashing while doing these and same time using computer, so set it to only GPU compute when system idle [untick "Use GPU while computer is in use"]. Think, but not sure at all, this is mostly an NVidia driver crashing issue. Let us know. P.S. Post your start up message log of BOINC, 35-40 lines, so we can read about your setup. Also, please click on one of those error links and post the result log content. |

OK, it is looking more like an all-sciences issue. Atoms are no powerhouses, but we can work to minimize possible causes:
----------------------------------------1) On the Local preferences, disk tab, tick "Leave application in memory when suspended" 2) On the Processor tab, set the "On Multi-Processor systems, use at most" to 50%. Let it run a few results to see if things improve. When it does, set 2) to 75% and report back whenever there are new developments, good or bad. TTYL edit: This values look a bit tight BTW 27/04/2013 11:28:22|| max memory usage when active: 506.65MB 27/04/2013 11:28:22|| max memory usage when idle: 759.97MB Up the first memory usage setting to 75% (When computer is in use) Latter setting I have at 95% percent... when not using system, why let memory sit unused. :D [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Apr 27, 2013 11:41:00 AM] |

Thanks a lot! I'll try out your recommendations and report back in a few days to let you know how it's getting along!

Hi BoronBoy,
As I was reading your message log, I was muttering 'Memory' to myself. So when I read SekeRob's reply, I agreed with his diagnosis. I think you are cramming too much into too little space. Increase the allowed memory space and reduce the number of tasks running simultaneously until they run without errors. Lawrence |

Not much improvement on returning results. I think I'll abandon using this computer to run work especially since I've got my other PC back which I've used in the past (3-4 years ago) and had no problems. It appears this little net-book I'm using at the moment just hasn't got the power.
Thanks for all the advice! My other PC will be up and running in a month or so and then contributions to the grid can continue with less errors! |
