HCC (ati_hcc1) all tasks running on high priority

Just this afternoon all HCC (ati_hcc1) tasks started to run at High priority even though the reported dealines are 30 April +

The strange thing is they are all ending up in PV. Why the rush?

Re: HCC (ati_hcc1) all tasks running on high priority

Adding to my last, I now see the tasks tripping over each other.
One is running happely at High priority and then the next 'ready to start' jumps in at high priority pushing the first one to 'Wait to run'.

What's going on down here?
I'll leave it over night before I start mashing about with this.

Re: HCC (ati_hcc1) all tasks running on high priority

Hello zaschf,
The BOINC scheduling algorithm is being constantly tweaked swo you should include the BOINC version when you ask a question about it. Different versions can be very different and none are really attractive. In general, once it feels that something might not finish in time, it runs a bunch for short periods in order to estimate how long they are really likely to take then suddenly picks an arbitrary run order that it thinks might work. This really looks puzzling and certainly does not seem to be optimal.

The way to avoid this is to keep a fairly short cache. Even this does not work if it suddenly decides that the tasks will take a long time to compute.

Re: HCC (ati_hcc1) all tasks running on high priority

I'm running boinc 6.10.58 and interestingly, I've just reduced my cache from 1 day to 0.5
We'll see what happens.

Thanks,
Frits.

Re: HCC (ati_hcc1) all tasks running on high priority

Last update!
I've aborted ALL ati_hcc1 tasks. They were all deemed invalid while normal HCC tasks are valid.
Not much point in processing with the GPU when the result is useless.
I was using the 'Radeon HD 6470M' on my HP laptop.
