Can my AMD/Radeon HD7850 run more than one thread?
----------------------------------------been trying t get more out of my system, including the GPU. Been trawling through the various threads but not come across the answer to this one. Can my AMD/Radeon HD7850 run more than one thread? I've tried adding the app_Config with the following code: <app_config> <app> <name>hcc1</name> <gpu_versions> <gpu_usage>.125</gpu_usage> <cpu_usage>.5</cpu_usage> </gpu_versions> </app> </app_config> Is it me, the code or the Card? I have tried several different lines for <name> xxx </name> does the <gpu_versions> line need to include the card type? As you may guess, I'm not much good at xml... Many thanks in advance

Where did you put this app_config.xml file? The only correct place is in the www.worldcommunitygrid.org projects folder, else BOINC does not know what WCG application needs to comply to what rule when started. Of course, when the file was put in place, the client was restarted [required for 7.0.40 to 7.0.53]. For 7.0.54 and up it suffices to do do a Read config in the advanced menu.
----------------------------------------The setup manual is here: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Cc_config.xml where the applications configuration section appliers. No more lines per application than what's shown there. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Mar 20, 2013 10:43:27 PM] |

Yes, it is a problem. You have to run 7.0.42 or higher (recommending 7.0.57).
----------------------------------------The folder C:\ProgramData\BOINC\projects\www.worldcommunitygrid.org is correct Cheers ![]() ![]() Crunching@Home since January 13 2000. Shrubbing@Home since January 5 2006 ![]() |

Mamajuanauk,
Given manual links are really meant to be read, else we could as well stop maintaining them, where the first line of the app_config.xml section says: Application configuration This mechanism allows you to specify scheduling parameters associated with specific applications. It is available with 7.0.40+ client versions. To do this, create a file app_config.xml in the project's directory, with the following format: Anyway, there currently is no "recommended" version, as there is already 7.0.58... When in a hurry, mistakes are made and simple corrections are missed, as in this case. From an internal test I did and reported on last night on 7.0.57, it's more than probable that it's not going to be the last build before wide public announcement [which appears in the message/event log and coming from either Berkeley or WCG [for the skinned and code audited version]. Things, seemingly being sorted with this app_config.xml... Crunch On. |

Thanks for the guidance.
----------------------------------------Where can I get a later version? On the Boinc download page the latest version 7.0.56 is listed as may be unstable! Is there another good version available? Thanks again.

The 7.0.58 32 bit test erased my cc_config.xml, another testing not suffering that faith with the 64 bit version, but trusting I'd do neither. 7.0.57 did not pose operational issues, so here's the Changelog link for that release: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dev/forum_thread.php?id=6698#48296
Just change the link address to .57 to get that. Plz do *not* try the WCG version. It's on internal alpha [not ensorsed by WCG], which could lead to the unexpected if switching back to the regular version. |

----------------------------------------Thanks again

Ok Guys, I've updated my boinc version, added the app_config.xml file and got my GPU doing 2 tasks (while testing) with settings GPU = .5 CPU = .5
----------------------------------------When the HCC GPU tasks come in they are listed with about 4.5 minutes of run time, running 2 tasks they are taking around 15 minutes to complete. What am I doing wrong?
