Hello halfcard,

No. WCG supports individual free choice. It is the best way to attract and keep members. However, a large number of contributors are hands-off, willing to leave things to chance or the WCG staff. The WCG staff can set proportional ratios in the server which keep every project busy while allowing each member to make his own informed decision about how his computer contributes.

Re: are badges hurting some projects here?

I see what you mean halfcard, I myself, even though I say that I am not badge hunting, currently am doing just that by trying to reach the ruby on HCC, setting aside for the time being other projects that I would like to be involved in (on top of HCC) like CEP2 and FAAH.

All in all, Lawrence is right though. Even if it weren't for badges, I just said that I would probably only crunch CEP2, FAAH and HCC (since C4CW is gone).

Anyway, great question and I hope I will be able to follow the debate that will ensue.

Cheers!

I would think just the opposite. There are projects that don't fire my interest. I crunch those just for the badge. So they get 2, 5, maybe 10yrs from me they wouldn't have gotten otherwise.

Do not hesitate to fact-check before letting helium and CO filled balloons fly. Each [temporary] dive and spike in a science's contribution has a story, and maybe the techs have not been running their joystick operated feeder share game for a while, but to me the longer term balance is pretty much within reason, and maybe a bit of the noted opposite.

Fact check location one: http://bit.ly/WCGYPM, HPF2/FAAH pretty much rank ex aequo on second spot for the past 12 months, no project able to compete with HCC's GPU exclusive use, number one.
