Output File Absent - Computational error

Hi all,

Quite new to this WCG game but have noticed that some of my tasks are showing 100% but computational error in the status column. Delving into the messages I notice entries saying that Output File X for task Y absent quite a bit.

All of the computational errors stem from the HCC project which is the only project using my GPU (AMD HD6750M). Is it likely that the GPU is the issue? if so is it because my GPU is incompatible completely?

Sorry if these questions have been answered before, I couldn't spot anything in the community FAQs or by forum search and google doesn't seem to index the WCG forum at all.

Re: Output File Absent - Computational error

After a period of absence from World Community Grid I'm back on line. I too noticed after I updated my BOINC version from the web site and selected to use my GPU, (NVIDIA Quadro FX 370) that all the Help Conquer Cancer nvidia_hcc1 project are coming back with computational error.

Re: Output File Absent - Computational error

dkester: your GPU is not listed in Excluded graphics cards list. The problem might be in your BOINC client - are you using 6.10.58? Try installing version 7.

Andy^3: also your GPU seems to be supported by HCC1 app.

Re: Output File Absent - Computational error

Thanks Branjo, I am using 6.10.58 so have told my manager not to fetch new tasks and have aborted the ones ready to start. In the morning when my current work units have completed I'll try switching to 7. Would you suggest the unstable 7.052 or 7.028? (I'll be moving from 32 to 64 bit if that makes a difference)

Re: Output File Absent - Computational error

I was previously using the 6.10.58 BOINC client but installed version 7.028 with no success. The configuration messages look a little different when BOINC first starts to initialize but nvidia_hcc1 jobs error out with "Computation for Task.......Finished. "Output file X.....for task X......" is absent. I'm wondering since the Quadra FX 370 is also a very low level GPU that if it's not the problem. Is there anything other I can look at to see if the GPU is the problem? I noticed the other low level GPU cards around the FX 370 are on the excluded hardware list. Thanks!

Re: Output File Absent - Computational error

Andy^3: Install the most recent driver from here and then (my reco) 7.0.28 BOINC client. If it will work, then you can upgrade it to 7.0.52.

dkester788: I am sorry, I can't help you. Please, post the startup messages of BOINC, first 35 lines, maybe some other fellow cruncher (more capable than me) will be able to help you smile

Cheers and good luck peace

Re: Output File Absent - Computational error

Still no joy either, will start a new post in the GPU forum later as updating BOINC didn't seem to help. Maybe users watching that forum will know what's going on.

Re: Output File Absent - Computational error

Run the repair function of the installer pack [right click, select Run as Administrator]. Maybe the rights got corrupted.

edit: Oh, and a project reset. Many files will be re-downloaded just in case something is wrong with them. Worst case, detach from WCG, empty the BOINC\projects\www.worldcommunitygrid.org folder and attach/add project WCG again.

edit2: Beyond doubt, we boot with persistent errors out of nowhere and check if AV securities do not interfere [when a new science app arrives, it may need adding to the exceptions].
