Re: callout to fellow crunchers

I am starting to make progress after a rough start. For some unknown reason, the first info I looked at said that cc_config lived in the BOINC program folder and not the Program Data/BOINC folder.

Now that it is in the right place, I can actually see the extra info being displayed in BM. I am now seeing timeouts and connection refused type messages ( I decided to try proxies other than Google and OpenDNS).

To keep things easier for me, I will now concentrate on Google and OpenDNS.

Rob, I liked your idea of doing the proxy work in my external Smoothwall machine. However since my need for a proxy is to be a workaround for my ISP problem, the proxy is going to have to be running all the time. This leads me to think that since it is only BOINC that is needing the workaround, it might be wiser to stick with BOINC linking to the proxy. That makes sense so far, right?

I think I have fried my brain today so its probably better to attempt the work tomorrow and just relax tonight.

Re: callout to fellow crunchers

AT LAST, after nearly 28 days, Virgin have managed to get me back into this site. Boy, has my ranking dropped sad

They haven't given me any feedback on what they did but there are still a lot of Virgin user who are unable to access IPs beginning with 198.

One good thing that has come of it is that while asking people to traceroute to this site, some have remarked on what a clever way it is to make good use of spare cycles. maybe we will get a few more to join in the cause!

Thanks to those who contributed to this thread. I am happy to report, Rob, that I now have OpenDNS installed on my firewall and now that Virgin have managed to open up my route to here, I am sure that I am seeing a speed increase in browsing.

Thanks again even if all you did was lend an ear to my rants of desperation.
