Re: JTS 2 - Movin' on Up!

Beeps are never a good thing..It sounds like your motherboard is bad or is going bad..Have you tried swapping the ide cable from the master slot to the slaved slot...I have one where the primary slot no longer works but the secondary one is still running great...Also some of the older boards could only handle either a 128 stick or a 256 stick of memory max....Just some things for you to look at..... cool

Re: JTS 2 - Movin' on Up!

Dunno what ram you are using but it may not recognise PC2700 and up if your board is that old.
DDRam was not around back then.
PC100 would probably be the best bet.

Re: JTS 2 - Movin' on Up!

cheers again

Board is: Gigabyte GA-71XE4

has been running perfectly with equal amount of ram (192meg) for last few years without problem

board can't cope with DDR at all, running PC100 atm

will try moving IDE cables around; see what i get...

will just wait for lilsmap to return then

as for slot numbers have stuck with 10, but i'd rather have too many slots than not enough and waste time cool

Re: JTS 2 - Movin' on Up!

'Morning, Comp,
If your board is old, the CMOS battery is probably near dead. They're only good for about 5 years. Otherwise, the beeps could indicate either a memory or video problem. Check the Gigabyte web site for specific codes related to your model.

Edit: According to Gigabyte's website, the board has an AMI BIOS. I've got a list of AMI beep codes from 2 years ago but it shows only single set codes, not multiples as you're getting. One, two, or three beeps all indicate memory errors of one sort or another. Suggest trying one memory stick at a time. Best way to find a bad one.

Re: JTS 2 - Movin' on Up!

changed CMOS battery about 2 months ago with shiny new one - because (as you stated) it failed, but will swap out a new one again see if it changes anything...

was video memory as one problem, so changed video card as stated above along with new tested RAM, CD drive and HDD...

Really not a huge deal cause the processors only a 600

Morning John smile , although it is afternoon
