And when you do a full uninstall/removal of AMD/ATI software, I also recommend deleting the folder it creates as well. Their software has always been buggy when it comes to bad installs/removals. If it is a dedicated cruncher, a clean OS install would probably be a lot quicker then trouble shooting and reinstalling drivers every reboot. Just save your BOINC data directory and copy it back after the reinstall.

There are fans who use "Driver Cleaner" http://www.drivercleaner.net/ . Been mentioned on the forums a few times.

Thanks for your input, everyone. However...
This is a personal use machine and not a dedicated cruncher. I do not want to do a reinstall of Windows 7. Also I thought I fixed the problem by removing all the old drivers etc and was so happy (prematurely) that I posted this thread: https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread_thread,34498 So I have tried removing all previous drivers and registry entries, and reinstalled the drivers fresh but am still facing this same problem. Thanks, |

One more thing, in a Linux discussion it was said that BOINC was starting up too fast, no chance to detect the cards before they themselves were loaded charged with their drivers. A sleep cycle was introduced to make BOINC wait.
Remedy [they seemed not to know about]: Use the cc_config.xml delay function <start_delay>120</start_delay> (or any higher or lower value, in seconds... whatever provides time enough) And / Or the boinc.exe service delay (Automatic with delay)... latter of course wont help when having BOINC installed at user level to be able to GPU crunch. |

I tried searching for it but could not find a cc_config.xml file
Tried BOINC and it also could not find it. 1/21/2013 12:00:33 PM | | Re-reading cc_config.xml 1/21/2013 12:00:33 PM | | No config file found - using defaults 1/21/2013 12:00:33 PM | | log flags: file_xfer, sched_ops, task |

The cc_config.xml file only exists by default for the WCG version of BOINC on Windows and the Ubuntu BOINC rpm package where it's put in /etc/boinc-client , a user editable directory where the data dir is usually in /var/lib/boinc-client. Don't know where other distros put the BOINC data dir You'd have to create the file yourself, which is with sudo nano or sudo gedit cc_config.xml rather easy.
The basic content with the one delay line would be <cc_config> The friendly manual: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Cc_config.xml |

BOB,
----------------------------------------Had the same problem - but I did not see your post - because I never tried the rstart to get my ATI card to be cognized in linux. After the restart, I finally got my GPU to be recognized. more in this thread: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread_thread,34880 Good Luck! Jay ![]() |
