Global warming....pulls a vacuum.

I live someplace where I'm supposed to be worrying about "lake-effect snow", cussing the town snow plow operator for always shoving the snow in the alley into my parking, and chortling over the fact that I'm heating an entire floor with computers crunching CEP2. Instead, I'm watching the ambient temps around my systems climb towards 80 F/26.67 C - with the windows open - and debating kicking on the A/C...

As Christmas fast approaches.

Global warming su...pulls a vacuum. Crunch harder, CEP2 crunchers...the world may be hanging upon your efforts.

@ubsteve2me -- Where I am, we've been seeing weather extremes that are becoming normal with cimate change: severe flood in 2008 and drought in 2012. Like you, I feel as if crunching CEP2 makes me a small part of the solution.

Re: Global warming....pulls a vacuum.

I just bought a weather alert radio, which we don't normally need where I live. But the spring storms keep getting more creative each year, and the radios are always out of stock by the time that March comes around.

I live in New Jersey - not generally considered hurricane territory - but we've have 2 in a row so far with Irene last year and Sandy this year. If this is the new pattern, I can't say that I'm surprised. When you live in a state that's home to the mob and the poster child for toxic dumps, you tend to assume that any time you get handed a stick, it will be the smelly, short end.

Re: Global warming....pulls a vacuum.

It's pretty bad with many of the predictions of the IPCC coming true even faster than expected: normal scientific caution about not wanting to draw conclusions that can't be justified by the data could be backfiring here.

One bright spot though is just how rapidly solar power is growing: worldwide capacity has been doubling about every 2.5 years since 1975.
