A little more work to run for HCMD2

After reviewing the set of data run over the course of the project, there is a little bit more work that needs to run. We are loading this work onto the grid now. This work will likely be complete in about two weeks. We are running it with shorter than normal deadlines to help it complete quickly.

Re: A little more work to run for HCMD2

Hi Kevin, I am one of those that is glad to see a little extra work..I am only 28 days from Sapphire!

Unfortunatly, I think I got more tasks with a 2day target than I can possibly complete ..they came in with an estimate completion time of 1:40 and it looks like they will take between 5-6 hours ..the time will correct itself but wanted to raise the flag if there is anything you can do to bump the estimated times ...Thx

Great news. I had fallen just short of ten years on HCMD2 and thought I would never see it. I'll have to forgo some HCC-GPU crunching to get it, but c'est la vie!

Unfortunately, there is not much I can do at this point. The estimate that is being used is what was being used during our last run of hcmd2 which has proven to be too short. However, these are fully distributed at this point and any additional workunits will be children of these and divided to be much smaller and fit the estimate better. I apologize for the mismatch between this initial group and the estimate.

To extrapolate from my results so far, there may be lots of those. In 4/7 cases, both machines have hit the 6 hour runtime limit rather than complete the work.

Re: A little more work to run for HCMD2

Based on a 1.5 day cache, my hosts loaded work for around 20 days !!!
As long as the WCG servers do not abort the tasks, it should be maybe good.
Cheers,
Yves

Unplug cable or set BOINC to network suspend. You run the risk of completing overdue tasks, reporting them and getting a "toooo late" ;0)

Re: A little more work to run for HCMD2

My machines have worked it down into the 16 day range. Considering it was reporting 20-24 yesterday, I'm not too worried.

Whatever times out will be returned and resent. Such is the way of the grid. As for run times except for the few that reach 12 hours, most of them are finishing in just short of 7 hours - so no children (at least from my result).

Re: A little more work to run for HCMD2

So far, 256K results for 95 CPU years have completed in this clean-up run. The mean runtimes have dropped from peaking at > 5 hours to 2.9 hours.

Crunch On.
