48 days left

Time to hurry up for those who want to crunch GPU. Only 48 days left, and every new entrant (or every new board added) brings down that limit. biggrin

Sorry, but this is smoke without a fire... just a number based on what we know is stale data. The [patient] waiting is on Viktors et al to come back with a new outlook, which could as well be "When it's School's Out again"

Re: 48 days left

I've heard unofficially that the HCC scientists have another 3 or 4 months of work they can toss into the pot and that they are looking for more. This is all unspecific, uncertain and hence unofficial but it certainly seems as though HCC will still be going strong when Spring arrives.

Makes sense to me. Why would they have gone ahead with a Linux and Apple version if it was all going to be over so soon?

Best news I've heard all day, provided its true. Hopefully, this gives WCG time to find another GPU project after this one finishes. wink

Sek that was coming from your data.

But if what lawrencehardin says is correct then it is excellent news the ROI on GPU is improving. wink

Re: 48 days left

It almost has to be true, because Ios and Linux betas have started. Unless the scientists really want this project to finish before Christmas, it would be a very strange strategy to pour such resources into it (developing GPU app for such a long time and then also running betas for all platforms when there's 48 days left...seems odd to me :) ).

ANd, once the Linux and Apple GPU goes live...I belive the project will get even more returned results per day than we see right now...

Finding another GPU project is an excellent idea. I'd say another bio-medical_related GPU-project before HCC1 completes. I also would want an HCC_phase2 or something that would continue cancer-reasearch that makes use of the results-, and/or explore discoveries-, from the HCC1 effort. At any given time, I'm of the view that at least 2 GPU-projects be live and active. A no star or a lone shinning star GPU-project doesn't seem to me as a good way to go for WCG GPU-computing.
