only invalid results

Ubuntu AMD64 3.2.0-34, 6G RAM, AMD X2 3000+, Boinc 7.0.31 and 7.0.28

After a brake of about o month, i started this project again, and i only get invalids ! (never happened before)

Also, some of the invalids, get partial credit ! What;s up with that ?

What to do, other than stop this project?

Re: only invalid results

You may want to search the forums. Some AMD CPU's just never produce a valid result for VINA based sciences unless they happen to meet up with a wingman that has the same CPU... a rare chance, and therefor nothing that WCG techs can do about without heavily modding the validation / distribution system [and risking serious congestion in the feeders as has happened in the early days when GFAM/SN2S/DSFL were launched].

Summary: Sorry, but recommend deselecting these 3 sciences from the profile that is associated to this computer.

Re: only invalid results

Although I had the feeling that the situation regarding VINA-based projects and AMD CPU (Athlon II) became better, I experienced again during the last days many invalid WUs.
I am really unhappy sad sad sad
The most recent and active projects are VINA-based.
HCC, HFCC, HCMD2, C4CW are finished now.
CEP2 could not be computed stand alone.
The situation is desperate.

There is always the other two projects:FAAH and HPF2. I run an AMD 9150e quad core on Win7 and have not had any invalids for the vina projects. It must just be some AMD cpu's but not all.
Cheers

Re: only invalid results

The major troubles with VINA are mainly by Athlon II with Ubuntu.
Phenom II with Ubuntu are widely OK.
Athlon II with WinXP is usually good.

Several years ago, I experienced serious performance issues with HPF2 and FAAH, that was the reason for me to focus on other projects.
Cheers,
Yves

Re: only invalid results

I have two Athlon II quad core machines that run GFAM (and SN2S, DSFL) perfectly fine.

#1 - Athlon II x4 640, 4 GB RAM, Ubuntu Server 10.04 64-bit
#2 - Athlon II x4 635, 4 GB RAM, Win 7 Home Premium 64-bit

Re: only invalid results

Quite foggy... Maybe knreed or uplinger can update us quantitatively on the 'invalid' combo info for the VINA sciences [client/bitsize/OS/Exact CPU type]. No point in crunching these if the 'invalid' number is consistently high for these hosts [would get a quota cut, and now more aggressive since a few weeks]. Certainly [being an Intel only cruncher], all me hosts a generating 100% valids, W7/W8/Ubuntu [now 13.04].

To remind us all, the specific CPU invalid numbers were too small to justify setting up a separate HR class for these. They caused feeder clogging, although with the strategy change on who gets repairs, and HCC having departed, that obstruction [to find a fitting wingman] may justify a revisit.

edit: insert quota bit.

Re: only invalid results

It is the older single core AMD CPUs, I don't have any left but they ID in boinc as family 6, I believe they were AMD XP, currently running several X2 class with 100% valid

Re: only invalid results

The main troubles are experienced with an AMD Athlon II x4, 640, Ubuntu 10.0.4, 64x, 4 GB RAM.
Cooling is OK. System is up-to-date.
The same configuration on WinXP Pro SP3 is OK.
Frustrating,
Yves

Re: only invalid results

That's rather weird. The Athlon II X4 640 isn't exactly very old. Have you tried upgrading your Ubuntu distribution? The 10.04 distribution has reached the end of it's life a couple of days ago so you might as well upgrade. Or try a diferent Linux OS. I use Mint 14 X64 with an Athlon II X2 and it works great. No invalids.
