Thank god. I really hate the holidays. All of my close relatives are dead - the ones I cared about anyway. Isn't that how it always seems to work? And I told the rest of the world to take a flying leap a few years ago in terms of personal relationships. I don't remember who said it but to paraphrase, I love humanity, it's people I hate.
----------------------------------------What I did until a couple years ago was find people from my support groups (depression, OCD) who didn't have anyone and invite them out with moi and my girlfriend. There's a nice hotel near here that does a Thanksgiving buffet that is quite passable and they always seemed to appreciate the gesture. This year I'm not even doing that. What I might do is drive around and pretend I own the road, seeing if I can improve my 0-60 time. It's also fun to see how many places I can find that are open on Thanksgiving day. That's not too much of a challenge though really. Xmas is the real hunter's challenge. Or I might might just sit at home in my undies with some champagne and watch football. Maybe I'll polish off the rest of the Stella Artois. It's a tough call. ![]() ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by twilyth at Nov 22, 2012 2:11:07 AM] |

No, no. I'm not sad about it at all. The alternative would be to have to dress up and have to try to be polite to people I don't especially like for 3 or 4 hours.
----------------------------------------I mean the part about losing the people I cared about is sad, but that's life. That happened, the last of them anyway, over 10 years ago though, so it's not like this is something new I have to deal with. Thank you for the sentiment though. ![]() ![]() |

We're having Pie over at our "place" you are always welcome, in my book, to come on over. iirc you were always fond of the Blueberry, Key Lime, and especially Cherry ;)
----------------------------------------My wife has similar issues with the holidays for similar reasons....

Ignore the holiday and just do what you would do on any other day.
---------------------------------------- There are probably several TV program marathons on cable to watch. Cheers ![]() ![]() |

Heh. I remember it well. Thanks man. Cheers.Ignore the holiday and just do what you would do on any other day. tongue There are probably several TV program marathons on cable to watch. Hmmm. {goes to look for Firefly marathon}Sounds like a good plan to kitteh... LOL, I love that photo. Thank you.Sounds pretty sad to me: maybe there's a food bank/homeless shelter/food kitchen/old folks home you could visit....Happy Thanks giving!! smile OK. I sort of had an ulterior motive for this post. I've learned from my support groups that a lot of people are more willing to open up about something when someone else starts. So I figured if there are other people here who don't have any place to go, maybe if they saw this thread and realized that they weren't alone that a) they might feel better and b) they might want to chat. I never intended for this to be my own personal pity party - not that I think any of you see it that way, it's just that I figured I should come clean about my intentions is all. ![]() edit: BTW, I think you're all very sweet for responding. Hey, why are you running away? You didn't really think I was getting ready to hug you did you? ![]() ![]() [Edit 2 times, last edit by twilyth at Nov 22, 2012 5:48:00 AM] |
