Re: Low Work for Help Conquer Cancer ( Nov 20, 2012 )

When I read uplinger's rely that 'it could be a day or a week' before new units become available, I had a similar thought to Sekerob. Combining this with the need for free time over Thanksgiving, why not just say something like 'No new HCC until December'?

This would surely remove the pressure for everyone and give other WCG projects an added boost in the interim.

Re: Low Work for Help Conquer Cancer ( Nov 20, 2012 )

Perfectionism is a strong drive. Saying no work until December is easy...doing one's best to get the project up and running despite Thanksgiving is a whole different thing.

This may not at all be the case, of course. Just saying it might be a possibility, based on me knowing myself and how I would act in such a situation...

Re: Low Work for Help Conquer Cancer ( Nov 20, 2012 )

Here's how I am coping. Just pull the App file, set your projects to HCC and make sure the GPU option and "...send work from another project" is checked . Check your system(s) often. When/if you see a single channel of gpu pick up, slap that app file back in. (don't forget to abort all the non HCC tasks first)

After reading your comment above, I did pretty much the same thing. Good thinking; Thanks. applause

(I kept my two GPU machines on a different device profile, killed the App file, set the profile to HCC and HFCC and then set the queue depth to .3 day so that I could switch back quickly without aborting many if any tasks when I see the first HCC GPUs running or loading in the queue)

Great news everyone. We are in the process of downloading new work from the researchers. Instead of sending out a trickle as they arrive because everyone is starving for work today. We will more than likely be able to release them and set the project back to full weight tomorrow. This is barring any delays of course. We will try to keep you up to date and informed of any changes that may happen.

Thank you for your patience,
-Uplinger

Thank you Uplinger, This is great news!

I am very anxious to resume contributing to this project! ( I say this as I am leaving Johns Hopkins, my mom has just been moved from ICU to a regular room with much to be thankful for today....)

Thanks to everyone who is contributing to WCG and this project especially.
