Re: WU getting stuck

Hello adriverhoef,
To me, it sounds as though you had a unit that the algorithm was unable to handle. Might as well abort then, since waiting for a time-out will take even longer.

Re: WU getting stuck

Before doing the "Suspend" procedure to unstick tasks not making progress [See Start Here FAQ index for expanded explanation], the LAIM function [Leave Application in Memory, when suspended] has to be switched off! Else, the task will *not* unload from memory.

FAAH being stuck is an extremely rarely reported event. If at all, it's the HPF2 doing this. Permanent cure never found, not reproducible in labs, but to say that there is a possible correlation, [long time ago] I saw between HPF2 failing and FAAH/HFCC running simultaneous. That was when HPF2 still showed the 401 error. Never seen it with the ten times less frequent 711 error.

I tried this suggestion. First of all, suspending the task caused the next one in the list which happens to be the FAHV to start. Then both the suspended one and the new task ran at the same time (25% to each task, while the other FAAH one had 50% which is still going strong.). The two FAHV task continued running until the suspended one reached the point where it was ready to reset and the new FAHV continued running with 50% of the processors usage until that crashed and then restarted from scratch.

Why does a suspended task keep running?

I also tried shutting down BOINC and restarting it, and the FAHV started from the very beginning.

Is the problem because I am running XP or a very old BOINC client or a laptop that is almost 4 years old?

Any other suggestions besides wait an hour before aborting?

| Edit: Aborted after waiting an hour and a half. Observed that the percentage that was reached for the aborted task was either 3.636, 4.545. 5.454 or 6.363 but never any higher.

The FAHV issue really needs to be analyzed and resolved. I just might do only CEP until this gets resolved.

Re: WU getting stuck

I just started running three of the VINA jobs and they keep repeating and repeating. The CPU time is greater than the Elapsed time which I've never seen. In any case, each of them is resetting to zero. For all three jobs. I don't have the patience for documenting, but I will just make it a practice to abort all VINA jobs as they appear in my queue. That leaves me with Autodock FAAH and CEP.

Re: WU getting stuck

I've aborted these tasks for repeated restarts because they were clogging up my queue:

21/07/2013 12:16:20 World Community Grid Restarting task FAHV_x3AO2_IN_FBP_0046436_0122_1 using fahv version 703
21/07/2013 12:17:00 World Community Grid Restarting task FAHV_x3AO2_IN_FBP_0046436_0055_1 using fahv version 703

I can't afford to reboot my computers every time I encounter one of these things.

Re: WU getting stuck

I have Windows 8 and all FAAH WUs are stuck ( well seems I've been able to finish one WU during a month) smile
I noticed the thread about new Windows and mac OS, so I guess there's nothing to do at the moment but drop this project? Until the problem is fixed.

Re: WU getting stuck

BOINC installing properly on W8 and latest Mac OS-X only with versions 7.0.31 and up is a separate matter, if you were referring to that. Many members are happy with 7.0.4/65, particularly if only running WCG as I'm doing mostly.

And hmmm, as this is odd v.v. FAAH on AutoDock, as this app has not changed for months and no reports have come in pertaining to this science having issues. Sure you're not talking about FAAH on VINA aka FAHV? You may want to try the certainly by members confirmed workaround to set BOINC to run at 100% CPU time [default 50 or 60% depending on when your profile was activated].
