I have increased the GPU cache to 400 jobs. This should give more buffer for outages. So, how do I fill my cache? I never saw the old limit of 200 jobs! |

Well, some have read the manual, some have not [draft FAQ is in the BOINC Support forum] and can't take part of their old client v6 ways of understanding. The buffering mechanism is quite different with v7 [which is presumed to be agent used], and since WCG only gives our 10-15 per work request, and v7 just stops asking as soon as the buffer is bigger than the "Minimum work buffer" or in acronym MinB, it's that value that has to be increased, *not* the Maximum *additional* work buffer. In short, want more work cached with v7, increase MinB.

To preface, we're talking GPU "in progress" to have been upped to 400 maximum. Yours are listed as taking 16 hours a pop?
----------------------------------------*Of Course* the buffering is not based on number of WU's but on the amount of time estimated to take them to completion, which for GPU I see being reported as going from 1 to 10 minutes or so. if you have 16 hours listed for a GPU task, then maybe the DCF is off, though I understood to have read that the <dont_use_dcf> parm was implemented, at least I see in the WCG section of the client_state.xml this <dont_use_dcf/> entry, which means that the servers ignore assigning work based on the client duration estimate but uses it's own, based on the run times for reported work [at least that's how I understand it to work in concept] edit: de-braille [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Nov 19, 2012 8:17:11 AM] |

Well, lets just observe if things self-resolve like yesterday. Set your alarm to around 12:07 UTC [which is right around when noon stats are started]
----------------------------------------Scheduler down = Result Status page down [gives a red message]. edit: Today the out started after 8:20 AM CET [7:20AM UTC], at BOINCTasks logged the last successful Ready to Report clearing at that time in the history. And before the out there was not a validated task (I think since midnight UTC).
