Hi there.
am just curious as to why the GPU units now take longer to do? They used to range from 10-15 minutes, now they take half an hour? I also have a question about the files that are downloaded. The work units consist of files with the jp2 extention. A brief look with a hex viewer indicate that they were designed with something called JASper. From what I can gather, JASper is a graphics application. If you were to fire up jasper and try to view these files from within the application, what would you see? I am not a hacker, I just like to know a lot of things that's all. |

The new 7.05 WU's are double the length of the previous ones. The reason is that two diffraction images are filtered instead of one before.
----------------------------------------This will also reduce the number of WUs back and forth. If you compete in terms of WUs/day etc. then your score will indeed sink by half. ![]() |

And a note to all crunchers: these GPU tasks are real bandwidth guzzlers as there appears to be continuous network activity with some spikes during execution. I must watch out as I have been processing 4 concurrent tasks on an HD 6790 and pay a flat fee for 60 GB/month.....take a look at your bandwidth utilization report....... crunching, crunching, crunching. Tasks *don't* have any network use during execution, only when the task is received and when the result is send back. If your machine is able to process e.g. 2000 units a day, then yes, 100 in past [on CPU], and 2000 now, with GPU, does 20 fold bandwidth use per day.

John it seems you pay a bill related to the data volume transferred. 60GB/month cannot be the bandwith. The bandwith would be a data volume per second. If you have a bandwith of say 100 Mbit/sec then your 60GB are eaten up in 6'000 seconds or less than two hours. This is pretty short indeed if you run many rigs with top GPUs and do also video or music streaming etc.. I have since many years opted for pure bandwith related bill. Data volume is unlimited. I pay at the moment for a 100 Mbit/sec download and 7 Mbit/sec upload. Unfortunately upload is still slow at the moment. This system means that I can be connected 24/7 and download upload ad infinitum at the mentioned bandwiths. In my experience it is much more expensive (in terms of dollars/GB) to have a data volume limit based contract then pure bandwith related. But it may be different according to the countries or operators. ![]() |
