Hi folks,
I'm having a strange problem where my desktop isn't uploading completed work units. I can connect to the internet using a browser and it downloaded the work units, but won't upload them. What is weird is that there are no error messages that tell me it couldn't connect. Also, the "do network communication" button doesn't seem to do anything, but again, no errors. I disabled my firewall but it still won't upload. This makes no sense...why wont the BOINC agent at least tell me why it won't connect? My laptop is on the same network and has no problems. |

Give it a little time. Once BOINC gets enough WU done it should upload them without any intervention by you. You can always go to the projects tab and click on the update button. If that does not work, please post your messages.

A couple of mine which were waiting to upload succeeded just now after I clicked the BOINC Manager's "Retry Now" button, but I still have several more giving me messages like this:

There's an "unstuck" procedure on the Start Here FAQ index. Yesterday just one device would not upload/report, but kept successfully fetching work until I booted the WLAN router. After that the uploads cleared. Why the other device on the net kept going... the riddles of internet and the "port 443 outward open" requirement for WCG. Just proofs time and again that no matter how [rock] solid something is deemed to be, booting just clears everything and refreshes the pathways via the ISP (most of the times).

A procedure which is quick and easy and sometimes worked for me is to suspend network activity, wait about 30 seconds and then resume network activity then hit the retry button. Sekerob's solution also has worked when the former solution proved ineffective.

Thanks for the responses, it seems to be working now. I kept fiddling with it so not sure if it started on its own or maybe one of the internet resets did it. Just glad to hear that this happens sometimes and that I'm not crazy/stupid.
Keep on crunchin' (P.S. Rob and Joe -- sooo jealous of all those medals you guys have. How do you do that? I have my regular laptop + an old desktop and old laptop all running WCG and have tiny scores compared to you guys). |
