HCC November 2012 update

Hello World Community Grid members,

We are happy to announce the November 2012 update to the Help Conquer Cancer project. The launch of the GPU platform has kept us busy, and we are adjusting to the amazing increase in project throughput. Meanwhile, analysis of the results of your crunching continues. This update briefly describes the performance of a new classifier we have developed. More improvement is expected in the near future.

We are grateful to all of you for your contributions of CPU and GPU cycles, making this research possible.

Re: HCC November 2012 update

I don't know if this is the correct place to pose the question, but I know a lot of people including moi are very, very interested to know if there will be more GPU HCC work units after the current and rapidly dwindling supply is exhausted.

Is there a chance you would be able to address this?

Re: HCC November 2012 update

Thanks for the update!
I am wondering the same thing as twilyth....would be great to get a hint on the long-term lookouts for HCC now that GPU processing is on "full steam ahead"...

Thanks for the update.
I was wondering what new experiments could become acessessible to address your research and able to better use the added crunching power (due to GPUs) that is now becoming available for this project at WCG.

Re: HCC November 2012 update

Thanks for the HCC-Nov2012-update, cubes. Good to know that a higher-level of abstraction is being first developed: developing an 11-way classifier system to set the stage/framework for later image-samples.

... if there will be more GPU HCC work units after the current and rapidly dwindling supply is exhausted.
It's a fair shot to say that there should be more work ahead, me judging from my understanding of the HCC-Nov2012 report in that an ICS (Image-Classification-System) is being developed first, and that the 'real action' of images directly related to the HCC research -- is yet to come. Whether there'll be actual work for cruncher-machines, is another matter, I understand. I imagine that some GPU-crunching effort need to go to both the development and fine-tuning of ICS on one hand, and on the other hand processing the images that are directly related to the HCC research. I have always fostered the idea that in research, there is essentially no difference as far as purposes are concerned between pursuing the 'means' (like the ICS, for example), and pursuing the 'ends' (finding cures for Cancer, for example).

Re: HCC November 2012 update

Is there no more HCC WUs available? My PC was sat idle, I've had to join in some other projects to keep it busy!
