What do you mean by 'anonymous platform?' I assume that means OS agnostic?
----------------------------------------But anyway, yes, all of my rigs are either win7 64 or Server 2008. I have 4 dual processor servers and 3 PC's running one or the other as per the specified hardware. So can I leave that line as is? edit: I'm running .28 but if you think .36 is stable I'll upgrade. ![]() ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by twilyth at Nov 12, 2012 2:12:24 PM] |

What do you mean by 'anonymous platform?' This means user specifies a file called app_info.xml and list all applications he's got, and a project will only send work for the listed applications. See http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Anonymous_platform WCG's scheduling-server is broken since it sends work also for applications or platforms not specified in app_info.xml, something that of course won't work, and you've stuck in an infinite loop of scheduling-server re-issuing the same un-crunchable tasks again and again until deadline or other reasons task not applicable any longer. ![]() "I make so many mistakes. Hello again Twilyth,
Looks like your thread as been re-directed somewhat. Glad to see you understand the 7 options I listed. Now answer these questions. 1 - Which of these 7 options have you used successfully? 2- Which Options do you wish to end with ultimately? Have a great morning, |

Jeanguy2: I've tried to be patient, but if you can't answer any of the questions I've posed, and you obviously can't, please stop cluttering this thread. Thank you.

Ingleside: I read the intro for the wiki entry and I don't really see the relevance but as long as I can keep that line as is, which I assume is what you're saying, I'm not going to worry about it.
----------------------------------------I'm also assuming that your recommendation is to go with .36 ![]() ![]() |

twilyth, The best advice in this thread was by jeanguy2 suggesting to go to http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthrea...09-Working-app_info-files. I did that this morning and with the advice there was able to create an app_info file that is allowing me to crunch 2-gpu and 6-cpu hcc1 WUs on a W7 i7-860 with a 6670. I do not have access to that cruncher now or I would post it, but will do so tonight if it is still needed.

As I stated up thread, I have done that already, but if the code is changing on a daily basis, I suppose I should check back.
----------------------------------------However the real point here is that it should be possible to create these files from a basic template with some rudimentary knowledge. I have only asked for some exceedingly basic information in this thread and so far no one has been able to deliver. If there are people on XS who understand the intricacies of setting this file up so well, I invite them here to answer the few simple questions I've asked and to help me set up a guide to allow ANYONE to set up their own app info file from a basic template. ![]() ![]() |

As I stated up thread, I have done that already, but if the code is changing on a daily basis, I suppose I should check back. However the real point here is that it should be possible to create these files from a basic template with some rudimentary knowledge. The first post in this link has a shortcut to a document that provides a template that I've used to setup a number of GPU+CPU app_info.xml files. After building the app_info, make sure you follow the step by step directions detailed in other posts on getting the WUs loaded and suspended in your cache before installing the app_info.xml file Also, as noted by Ingleside a few posts back, because of the way the WCG profile has to be set in order to receive HCC GPU and other CPU WUs you may/will receive WUs for sub-projects not in you app_info.xml. When that happens you will get into a loop where WCG send the WU, your client rejects it and then WCG resends it. After a while you exhaust your cache and will have to shut down the client, remove/rename the app_info.xml file, get another set of WUs, shut down the client, install the app_info.xml and start all over again. When I was running both GPU and CPU tasks using an app_info I ran into this problem at least once every day. I got tired of baby sitting and changed over to only running GPU on my PCs that can processes more than 1 GPU WU at a time.

wplachy: Thank you kind sir. I haven't taken a look at your link yet and I can't say I completely grasp the import of your explanation but I think I do understand the bottom line and will therefore abandon the idea of trying to run non-gpu/hcc projects as long I intend to run multiple GPU threads.
----------------------------------------I have replaced the 6850 with 7950 and will replace the app_info file with the one appropriate for gpu only crunching and report back - hopefully tomorrow. Once again, thank you very much for your input. ![]() ![]() ![]() [Edit 2 times, last edit by twilyth at Nov 13, 2012 2:56:16 AM] |
