SOLUTION: The app_info.xml file must go in the following directory
----------------------------------------c:\ProgramData\BOINC\Projects\www.worldcommunitygrid.org See the November 15th EST post from wplachy for instructions on how to expose hidden directories since this directory is not normally visible from windows explorer. ---------------------------------------------------------------------OP follows I started trying to run just gpu+hcc wth this app info and when boinc started up it told me that the gpu was missing. I even uninstalled and reinstalled. I then removed the xml file and still had the problem. I had to uninstall, delete the boinc directory and reinstall to get things back to normal. If you could also tell me what code to insert for FAAH, that would be great as well, but I'll abort those wu's if I have to. <app_info> <app> <name>hcc1</name> <user_friendly_name>Help Conquer Cancer</user_friendly_name> </app> <file_info> <name>wcg_hcc1_img_7.05_windows_intelx86__ati_hcc1</name> <executable/> </file_info> <file_info> <name>hcckernel.cl.7.05</name> <executable/> </file_info> <file_info> <name>wcg_hcc1_img_7.05_windows_intelx86</name> <executable/> </file_info> <app_version> <app_name>hcc1</app_name> <version_num>705</version_num> <platform>windows_intelx86</platform> <plan_class>ati_hcc1</plan_class> <avg_ncpus>1.0</avg_ncpus> <max_ncpus>0.783972</max_ncpus> <coproc> <type>ATI</type> <count>.5</count> </coproc> <file_ref> <file_name>wcg_hcc1_img_7.05_windows_intelx86__ati_hcc1</file_name> <main_program/> </file_ref> <file_ref> <file_name>hcckernel.cl.7.05</file_name> <open_name>hcckernel.cl</open_name> </file_ref> </app_version> <app_version> <app_name>hcc1</app_name> <version_num>705</version_num> <platform>windows_intelx86</platform> <avg_ncpus>1.000000</avg_ncpus> <max_ncpus>1.000000</max_ncpus> <flops>3231932486.733310</flops> <api_version>6.13.0</api_version> <file_ref> <file_name>wcg_hcc1_img_7.05_windows_intelx86</file_name> <main_program/> </file_ref> </app_version> </app_info> ![]() ![]() [Edit 2 times, last edit by twilyth at Nov 16, 2012 3:52:23 AM] |

Change the line <max_ncpus>0.783972</max_ncpus>
----------------------------------------To <max_ncpus>1.0</max_ncpus> I don't think this is your problem but no reason for that random number for cpu usage. ![]() |

OK thanks. Since it's such a hassle to test it, I'll hold off for now though.
----------------------------------------Any idea what I should be putting in for the flops number? That seemed totally arbitrary as well. I have to admit to feeling really lost here. I'm an old CICS programmer but I've taught myself at least a half dozen languages over the years so I'm not a stranger to computer code. Even so, I really have no idea what's going on here. And if I'm clueless, I can only imagine how the average user must feel. Someone made a comment in one of the threads about this being a little like cheating and to the extent that only the truly tech savvy have access to this trick, I'm afraid I have to say that criticism isn't completely unwarranted. I think if we're going to be truly democratic about this, we have to come up with a way make this easily accessible to everyone and just pointing them to that thread on XS doesn't cut it. ![]() ![]() |

OK thanks man.
----------------------------------------Since the only thing that appears to be different for each separate project is the file name - eg, wcg_hcc1_img_7.05_windows_intelx86__ati_hcc1, can someone post a list of those for each project? I thought I could get it from individual project work units but I couldn't see how. If this is a stupid question, I apologize in advance. thanks again. I'll put the FAAH and any other WU's on suspend and then try this xml and see if it works on my rigs. I'll try with the 6850 and a 7950 and report back tonight or tomorrow. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

That app_info is for GPU only. You need more CPU project specific code in the file to run multiple GPU tasks and any other CPU project at the same time.

Maybe that was the problem then? I had the FAAH wu's suspended, so maybe they couldn't be cleared and that was causing "unforeseen" issues?
----------------------------------------Is this all I need for the non-hcc app, assuming we're talking gfam? <app> <name>gfam</name> <user_friendly_name>GO Fight Against Malaria</user_friendly_name> </app> <file_info> <name>wcgrid_gfam_vina_6.12_windows_x86_64</name> <executable/> </file_info> <file_info> <name>wcgrid_gfam_vina_prod_x86_64.exe.6.12</name> <executable/> </file_info> <file_info> <name>wcgrid_gfam_gfx_prod_x86_64.exe.6.12</name> <executable/> </file_info> <app_version> <app_name>gfam</app_name> <version_num>612</version_num> <platform>windows_x86_64</platform> <avg_ncpus>1.0</avg_ncpus> <max_ncpus>1.0</max_ncpus> <flops>3347548492.458962</flops> <api_version>7.1.0</api_version> <file_ref> <file_name>wcgrid_gfam_vina_6.12_windows_x86_64</file_name> <main_program/> </file_ref> <file_ref> <file_name>wcgrid_gfam_vina_prod_x86_64.exe.6.12</file_name> <open_name>AutoDockVina64.exe</open_name> </file_ref> <file_ref> <file_name>wcgrid_gfam_gfx_prod_x86_64.exe.6.12</file_name> <open_name>graphics_app</open_name> </file_ref> </app_version> If so, what to I put in in place of wcgrid_gfam_gfx_prod_x86_64.exe.6.12 if I want FAAH (fight aids) rather gfam? What do I put in for flops? Does it matter? Do I just stuff this in before the </app_info> tag at the end? Thank you. Cheers!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by twilyth at Nov 12, 2012 2:59:43 AM] |

Read this thread at Xtreme system started by OldChap regarding app_info file. First post will give you various formats of app_info files. 2nd option is likely the one you want. Make sure that you follow the install instructions for app_info.xml listed there. Failure to do so will cause you duress and frustrations.

I did that and copied what was supposed to be the updated code.

So - wcg_faah_autodock_6.40_windows_intelx86.exe Never mind. But my stupid answer made me realize my previous question was incomplete. There are actually 3 names I need it seems as there are 3 names for gfam. wcgrid_gfam_vina_6.12_windows_x86_64 wcgrid_gfam_vina_prod_x86_64.exe.6.12 wcgrid_gfam_gfx_prod_x86_64.exe.6.12 ![]() ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by twilyth at Nov 12, 2012 4:25:32 AM] |
