I would suggest that a Team preference item be added for "forced retirement period". At the end of a preselected time period, such as number of months, that inactive team members could be "retired".
----------------------------------------A large percentage of my teams membership have been inactive for over 24 months and I am unable to contact them. Some for 3 or 4 years. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Nov 8, 2012 2:06:27 AM] |

Suspect not, as the team would then lose their contributions, much like old/retired computers.
Please refrain from multable posts with the same question, it is considered bad form. |

As fredski says, this isn't going to happen!
----------------------------------------What would be useful is if WCG changed the team join up options such that a new member's email address was automatically made available to the team captain. An effective team captain would have a powerful tool to sustain members continuing contribution to the team and WCG. IMHO Joining (or even creating) a team is something not to be undertaken lightly. |

Jonnieb-uk, thank you for the reply.
I would much rather contact team members, recognizing their contributions and keeping moral up. In any event thank you for sharing your comment. |

I see the usefulness of breynold's suggestion. In the case of the team US NAVY, however, that team captain (Michael Buckingham) actually died this year (Googled the name and read the obit myself) and was inactive himself a couple years before that. The team is "captain-less" and there's no way for someone else to take the helm...
----------------------------------------Also, retiring a member does NOT remove their contributions for that person while a member of that team, and doesn't have an effect on their contributions accumulated in world stats (if still contributing as a member of that team on projects other than WCG), either. Just saying... [Edit 1 times, last edit by terianne929 at May 8, 2013 5:39:25 AM] |

Thanks, Scribe. I don't want to be the captain, but seems like SOMEONE else should be "steering the ship". Also, if "forcing" a member into retirement was such a bad idea for the team there wouldn't be a "quit this team" button available to the members themselves, fredski's "bad form" comment notwithstanding...
----------------------------------------Seems like the worse that could happen with a "retire inactive member" button would be the effect on the rank for number of team members. The contributed run-time, points and number of results of that member to the team STAY with the team. [Edit 1 times, last edit by terianne929 at May 8, 2013 5:51:06 AM] |
