Because it has worked with app_info file w/o errors and I have not seen the mention about max elapsed time per WU
---------------------------------------- . And I like to test upper limits .![]() Crunching@Home since January 13 2000. Shrubbing@Home since January 5 2006 ![]() |

I am running 32 concurrent tasks on HD 7750 (w7 64 bit, 8-cores i7-3770 CPU, 12.11. beta 8 driver, 7.0.42 app_config, 7.0.36 app_info) with 99% GPU utilization and no significant fan noise nor power consumption increase. I thought 7770 is (at least a bit) powerful than my 7750... You won't be getting 32 times the output though, and you are using cores that could be used otherwise. At least that is my preference; I run CEP2 and various other projects that don't have GPU versions (it would be nice if they did). My HD 7770 draws around 35 watts total in the GPU active phase (accounting for power supply efficiency and including static power), and no matter how much CPU power you throw at it, won't get more output from the card than the TPD allows, which is around 70 watts as I recall. Beyond that, you are just speeding up the CPU side of the calculation, but it is diminishing returns. |

My rig calculate single HCC GPU in app. 4.5 mins. x 32 WU's = 2.4 hours.
----------------------------------------32 concurrent (via app_info file) are finished in 1.5 hours. Not that diminishing. But, you are right - if you want to use CPU also for other projects, 1 GPU task is OK. Cheers ![]() ![]() Crunching@Home since January 13 2000. Shrubbing@Home since January 5 2006 ![]() |

My first HD 7770 (on the E8400 CPU) is doing a work unit in 4 minutes 54 seconds.
----------------------------------------The second HD 7770 (on a Core i7-3770) is doing a work unit in 4 minutes 40 seconds. I don't think you are gaining much. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Jim1348 at Dec 14, 2012 11:00:49 PM] |

23 of 32 errored at the end of crunching (exceed maximum elapsed time which is probably set to 1.5 hours). App_info worked fine even if elapsed time for some tasks was app. 1.6 hours. Now testing 24. ... All 24 went w/o problem in app. 1h10m (1.15 hours) each (ATM 2 Valid, 22 PVal). Good setting for shrubbing during night, tomorrow will try 28 concurrent. If I didn't get at least 50% more output by putting an additional CPU core on it, then I would spend the core otherwise. You are paying for an entire PC, and getting bottle-necked by a GPU card otherwise. |
