wcg_boinc_6.10.58 install problem on windows 7

Hi,

As long as my computer is running the boinc manager is working ok. But if I have to restart for some reason it stops working as soon as windows is restarted. The only way to get it work again is reinstal and choose repair or remove it completly and reinstal it. Most of the times it works again but it can happen I have to go to the whole proces 3 - 4 times to get it working again.

Never had problems with older versions (since 2005) but since this version it is trouble again and again.

Hope there is a sollution for this.

Hi Jan,

if you did NOT install boinc as a service, and you installed it for a standard user, then make sure that your user is part of the boinc_admins group.

I had the same problem. Boinc is launched as administrator after it is installed. So it works as long as you don't log off or reboot. When you restart Windows, boinc is launched as standard user but cannot run because it doesn't have permission.

It's very easy to fix. Just right-click on Computer in the Start menu. Click on Manage. In the Computer Management window, click on Local Users and Groups. Click on Groups. Double-click on boinc_admins. Click the Add button. Enter your username. Click OK then OK again. Done. You might have to reboot for the changes to take effect.

6.10.58 is outdated. Your problems will probably be solved if you update to at least version 7.0.28

FWIW I recommend 7.0.36

Re: wcg_boinc_6.10.58 install problem on windows 7

Hi Jan Oppeneer ,

Please refer to sticky post over all forums discussing Windows 8. You need at least 7.0.31 for [quasi guaranteed] proper clean installation. The developers are working towards completing tests for 7.0.36 [I've been running it for a while, but still has some odd bugs, so expecting another release before called "final/recommended" 7.0.]

The core problem I think though is with what's happening to you is not having selected "allow all users" in the advanced install window. You can get into the system innards as per microelectronico, or uninstall and install.
