Hmm... thus far the best solution I can think of (other than the inbuilt snooze function, which as you noted is time-limited), is to create small programs that do nothing but display a small window, with names that can be detected by cc_config. Would still need to remember to start them up when watching a video though; but should be useful for other things that I don't want BOINC to interrupt too...
