I have also made a post @ fightmalaria@home forums
But i am not sure how many or if all projects were given the ok to use web prefs over my client's default prefs. I have tried repeatedly to use the prefs i tell the client to use, the event log says it is using them, but processing continues to follow the web prefs. The previous web pref settings were for multple pc's linked to each other...When a single pc uses these web prefs, the pc will crash. Or burn up outright if protections have been removed. Which i have done for several pc's i plan to use. Or are currently using. This also seems to be causeing computation errors. Particularly wcg and fight malaria. Please make sure all projects do not use these web pref settings and Do clear them out as if they were never set in the first place. To prevent any damages to any pc's currently in use or planned to be. Pazsion and muchpazsion@hotmail/yahoo.com are the names on these accounts. |

They are YOUR web prefs not WCG.....you change them, WCG has no control over them...

pazsion,
The unwavering rule is, if a global_prefs_override.xml file exists containing the local prefs, it *supersedes* everything on any project web[device-profile] preferences, *except* the science selections. Sub-project aka science selections can only be done in the device profiles, *not* in the local client preferences. After local preferences have been created nothing you do on the [website] preferences aka in the device profile will be followed on the client side. The only way to restore using of web preferences is to open up the client local [computing] preferences, and to hit the *Clear* button left top [or use boinccmd tool]. This will in effect delete the global_prefs_override.xml and allow the latest updated web-preference [device profile], to kick in *after* the client has communicated with the project that had the latest chamges. These are always stored in the global_prefs.xml file. In short, if local preferences were created, web-preferences are ignored! |

P.S. To add, you can remove the web preferences [delete the global_prefs.xml]. If you do, the client would have no fallback configuration, so the first project the client talks to will have the global_prefs.xml recreated from the web-prefs entered there. That's hard coded in the client, so posting to as many project forums as your client is connected to is not going to help.

SekeRob , maybe we should go over projects and point the discussion to here (as a secret dark plan this may bring more users to WCG) :D
