Graphics Card Performance - Update 10.18.2012

To the update just posted [read only ], a quick dump to a spreadsheet and splitting the results to arbitrary day numbers (3 hours extrapolated to 24 hours), you get the following, affixing a percent of total GPU crunching.

Under 5 minutes: 480408 (80%)
From 5-10 minutes: 89872 (15%)
From 11-15 minutes: 11504 (1.9%)
From 16 minutes on: 19256 (3.1%)

A further little math suggests that with the record 749,830 validated yesterday some 150,000 were processed on CPU from before ~225,000. This implies that for each CPU task less processed, 8 (eight) were added by GPU processing.

Coowl (and this offers some more fact based food on e.g. the checkpointing request if it at all were possible without paying an overall performance penalty).

Re: Graphics Card Performance - Update 10.18.2012

I am one of the cpu only crunchers right now, I DO have multiple gpu's that I could bring over, and did during the Beta phase, but am already at my Sapphire Badge and others are not and I don't need to be a pig about it! My question is are there going to be fewer and fewer cpu units made available and eventually will there only be gpu units available for HCC?

Re: Graphics Card Performance - Update 10.18.2012

The feed *experience* is regulated such that who sets HCC exclusive in a device profile on CPU, will get all s/he wants [I did]. That's the practical policy WCG has been running [provided the feeder can keep up]. Right now for instance, I'm running an ALL sciences on one device, but because most all are taken by exclusive crunchers for a few sciences, I'm only getting 1 or 2 for various of the 50-70 that are completed daily from my side. This is fine by me [no more goals, and if I had, could narrow the selection down]. It says nowhere that an exact split must be provided, in fact, it's next to impossible with the current server distribution design [could be done, but costly in multiple ways].
