Re: Intel HD Graphics 3000

Not currently. No BOINC projects are using any GPU's outside of nVidia and AMD/ATI.

Read this:
https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/help/viewTopic.do?shortName=GPU#610

It is a list of cards UNABLE to get gpu work here at WCG. The list MAY grow over time!! Although NOT listed I would be leery of that being able to work either. Additionally any card that is NOT using a pci-e slot probably won't work either.

Re: Intel HD Graphics 3000

AMD's APU is working well on this project. May not be the fastest but doing ok on time crunched, actually on par with my ATI 5670.

Re: Intel HD Graphics 3000

Looking at my results-status webpage, I see my done HCC-GPUv6.56-WUs measured under 'CPU Time / Elasped Time (hours)'. So, we have a GPU-based WU's performance measured in the amount of CPU time used. Hmm... Did I say that right but somehow did not quite sounded right?

Next, I looked closer at my done HCC-GPUv6.56-WUs and I see in my 'Result log' the following text which has sometime to do with time as an indicator of performance:
<<----------------------------------------------------
Total kernel time: 52.170967 (1026 kernel executions)
Total memory transfer time: 6.902131
Average kernel time: 0.050849
Min kernel time: 0.048231 (dx=25 dy=5 sample_dist=24 )
Max kernel time: 0.054023 dx=1 dy=1 sample_dist=0
INFO: GPU calculations complete.
Total time for ../../projects/www.worldcommunitygrid.org/X0960071640440200607251813_X0960071640440200607251813.jp2: 136 seconds
CPU time used = 71.120856

---------------------------------------------------->>
Now, 71.120856 seconds = 71.120856 / 3600 = 0.019755793 =~ 0.02-hrs -- which number matches the '0.02' value under the 'CPU Time / Elasped Time (hours)' column in the results-status webpage.

What happened to 'Total kernel time: 52.170967'? Shouldn't a GPU-based WU's performance on a machine be measured in terms of the kernel-time? Strange that CPU-time is used instead.

Here comes an APU crunching a GPU-based-WU with a CPU unit just nanometers away from the APU's GPU unit, and because the HCC-GPUv6.56-WU's performance is measured in CPU-time, I'm going to buy me some APUs right now rather than a Tahiti ! laughing. Intel is going to want to have some piece of the action for its HD3000 and HD4000 capable CPUs, but that's a story for another day, and it's AMD's APU for now...

... unless WCG shifts tack and begins to measure 'kernel-time' for a GPU-based-WU (which I bet Intel is not going to be interested in)... shhh coffee

Re: Intel HD Graphics 3000

It would be sweet if AMD made these chips multiprocessor capable on one motherboard. 4 on one board crunching GPU here would be great. You can check with katiacy in minnesota crunchers how well its working out with her APU. Hers was crunching faster than my 5670.
