Is there a way to change the task priority so that it's not at LOW but at 'below_normal' ?
----------------------------------------Everytime rosetta finishes, it goes back to idle. Even at normal priority, I have plenty of processing power to play my fast frame rate games online with never a glitch. I don't want CPU throttling when running any DC Projects. TIA! Can you not kill thermal throttling at bios level?
----------------------------------------I don't think there are any priority options.....Only place I have seen that is Folding@home. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Jul 21, 2005 2:24:24 AM] |

Yes I can, but I read in the Forums the client can be throttled...
I'm more interested in changing the priority however. |

I suppose you could adjust priority via task manager...tho I doubt it would make much difference.....and would reset to default upon starting a new unit.

There is no provision in the vendor software for raising the CPU priority of the agent software. We do provide a thottle feature which reduces the percentage of the CPU time used, but this is not accomplished with priorities. If you want to raise the priority, the only way would be to use something like the task manager, and with that you can only change it a certain amount. Of course, you would have to repeat this because when a new work unit starts or if you reboot the computer, for example, the priority would automatically go back to the lowest setting.

IronBits,
Have you tried using the Windows Task Manager to change the priority? While it is not recommended to raise the priority level of Rosetta, it is possible... The task name you want is WCGrid_Rosetta.exe (you can find it by sorting by CPU). Just right click and you can set it to below_normal instead of low. Once again, though, WCG does not recommend changing the priority level. |

Unless you have another application that is consuming lots of CPU, changing the priority won't make much difference. Perhaps you should deal with that other application to your satisfy your preference.

Using the Task Manager to change the priority of Rosetta has no effect unless you change it to "Real Time", at which point your system will likely become unresponsive, so don't do that.
----------------------------------------Changing Rosetta to any other priority class has zero effect. It will still have a final priority of 1 (the lowest on the system). To understand why that is, you have to understand how Windows handles priorities. The Task Manager lets you change the priority class of a process, but not it's relative priority within a class, which is where the final priority is derived from. This explains why when you change Rosetta to "Normal" priority, you still notice no difference on your system...because there is no difference. Changing priority is pretty much a moot point anyway. It will use all available CPU power that isn't currently being used by anything else. i.e. it's not supposed to interfere with normal usage of the machine. If you're not doing anything with it at the time, it's getting all your CPU. To sum up: Changing the priority of Rosetta to "Below/Normal', "Normal", "Above/Normal", or "High" will have no effect in changing the final priority. Changing it to "Realtime" will, but you'll end up with an unresponsive system.
