much funner putting together your own rig... you aren't stuck with proprietary parts if something should ever need replacing/upgrading... Good points Mousie - thanks ![]() . . .he's on the same side of the pond as you. I thought you were one of us also; you seem so normal. Ah, no, hold on. That's someone else I was thinking about ![]() whatcha looking at getting? would be good to know to make sure things are compatible... ![]() Well, as I said, just something cheap and cheerful initially. I'm sure there are many things that I will learn only by doing it. Make all the mistakes with the cheap stuff and then put something together to make that guru sweat ![]() A bit confused at the moment with numbers of pins on all these chips. Need to make sure the silicon bit fits the flat pastic bit ![]() ![]() |

Hi
Dad says if ya wanna test the waters with rig building you could do worse than start with a nice cheap nforce 2 system. Oh and Dabs..........ugh ugh ugh. If you are worried about trashing your first build that would be the cheapest "risk" to take.......besides......unless you fry the board (unlikely) any damage you could do would likely be limited to a single component. The part where you have to be a lil careful is when you start playing with overclocking and bios settings. Go for it.....must be easy if my dad can do it ![]() p.s......Writing this on a Sony vaio ![]() |

Ugh boys.
What ya wanna know? If you buy an A64 get a 939 A64 3000......she ramps up good generally. Best budget buy is the mobile Athlon 2500+/2600+.....they are a dream to ramp up. Overclock have them, as do Overclockers. Whatever you build, get a decent power supply. I think mousie could recommend one for you. |

Overclock have them, as do Overclockers. they were very creative with their names....lol. let's not confuse him with overclocking just yet...an a64 will do just as well without the overclocking...a possible overclock later would just be icing on the cake. ![]() |

Without overclocking, the Athlon XP would be the best value option...but yes, your general point is well founded.

before you panic old celerons are renowned for running at 80degrees
24/7 (its on the net somewhere) nice to take into account for a newbie overclocking. |
