My computer is quietly crunching for SN2S and GFAM since some weeks exclusively (the two projetcs I'm late into...) when some sort of strange messages appear :
11/10/2012 22:31:05 World Community Grid Requesting new tasks 11/10/2012 22:31:09 World Community Grid Scheduler request completed: got 0 new tasks 11/10/2012 22:31:09 World Community Grid Message from server: No tasks sent 11/10/2012 22:31:09 World Community Grid Message from server: No tasks are available for Say No to Schistosoma 11/10/2012 22:31:09 World Community Grid Message from server: No tasks are available for GO Fight Against Malaria 11/10/2012 22:31:09 World Community Grid Message from server: This computer has reached a limit on tasks in progress 11/10/2012 22:31:09 World Community Grid Message from server: Project has no tasks available What the hell does it mean ? I've never met that before. What am I supposed to understand or to do ? Thanks for help... |

May only affect Windows, as my Linux box has 12 SN2S "in progress", and the 12th arrived some minutes ago.

Thanks for your answer, Sekerob, but let me mention three points :
1) My technical english (or my knowledge of Boinc ?) is too poor to understand what's all about in this long discussion. Aren't we supposed to be able to run WCG projects whithout being a computer engineer of some sort ? Anyway, it does'nt mention the two projects I working on. 2) It gives me no reason why these settings changed suddenly, (or I could not see it..) when nothing special happened with my computer, who has the same settings since many weeks. 3) It's not the first time you mention, answering me, that there is somewhere a post explaining the question. But how could I find it, supposing it gives me the answer ? What am I supposed to look for ? The subject of the discussion you send me to is "Project Selection Workaround" and, please excuse me, but I don't event know what does mean this title, and so, how could I have looked for it ? Or for another subject that the title of my primary post ? That's why I go to the basic forum, asking my question to all.... Thanks for your help, anyway... |

What the h*** does it mean ? I've never met that before. What am I supposed to understand or to do ? For the moment, do nothing. I also have had this message. The techs will straighten it out eventually. Per knreed: We have temporarily limited the max number of workunits in progress for cpu to 10 due to this issue. We are examining how to address now. 1. Your english is quite good. 2. The settings changed by the techs happened so the system did not overload those doing both gpu and cpu work. They did this on the server side so your computer has not changed. 3. Relax a little bit. Nobody is going to think less of you because you posted a question. Hope this helps. Cheers

I see Legrandpiou's point. Generally, unilateral (or server-side) actions/events that are done as part of an interim measure but would nonetheless affect the client's environment or may require the client to do some adaptive response -- need to be communicated to the client. On the other hand, the client is expected to have some computer knowledge in general and BOINC operations in particular. Between these two ends lies a grey area as to what side (client or WCG) is responsible for searching/providing the guidance/advisory information. Because WCG, like any grid, would like to make the cruncher's experience as painless-, if not as enjoyable-, as possible, I suggest that WCG provide a link in their BOINC messages at the BOINC-eventLog where crunchers need only click on the WCG-provided link to get the cruncher to the guidance/advisory information.
Thus, in the client's BOINC-eventLog: The computer has reached a limit on tasks in progress. See details. ; |

That's a very good idea... I'm conscious it would ask extra work to the techs and advisors, who are already very busy to have the system running correctly...
Regarding the crunchers' computer knowledge, it should be the most little possible not to dicourage potential crunchers. But we (I) acquire experience along years of crunching... By the way, the problem is still unresolved at this time. |

Is there an ETA on a solution yet?
----------------------------------------Every time my computers want to download new work (I run old-school HCC-CPU exclusively ), I get the "This computer has reached a limit on tasks in progress" message. My buffers are starting to run dry due to this issue and I want to take my notebook on a trip where the possibilitites to connect to internet are limited... ![]() |

This restriction put a serious damper on my crunching as well. I don't run huge caches but I do live where internet connectivity can be spotty at best. I'm one small hiccup away from a substantial amount of downtime thanks to almost no ability to queue.
