Hi, I have downloaded my BOINC World Community Grid software and have installed it but this is as far as I have been able to get on my own. I HAVE checked the FAQ's but they are all too advanced for me.
I just want to know the easiest rute to contribute to the sustainable water project. Thanks for any advice, Jon Davey. |

Hi, Jon Davey: Welcome to WCG! You might want to take a look at HCC, SN2S, DSFL, GFAM and CEP2 for starters. have fun as you crunch! crunching, crunching, crunching. Hi jondavey,
----------------------------------------Although the project you mentioned is ended/ending, if you decide you still want to contribute to any other project, you would have to attach your computer to your user id (that is unless you weren't already prompted upon installation of the BOINC software). In order to do that you have to open the Boinc manager that you have installed on your machine, switch to advanced view and then Tools/Add project or account manager/Add a project and select World community grid from the list. Not sure exactly what happens after that as I haven't done this in a while, but you will probably be asked if you already have a user id or not (which you do, since you are able to post here), so you need to provide that information and you're all set. By default, you will probably receive WUs from all the projects running here at WCG, but if you get that far, the rest will be easier to explain. Hope this helps. Cheers! Knowledge is limited. Hi jondavey,
----------------------------------------Prior or after you follow CandymanWCG's recommendations, go to https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/ms/viewMyProjects.do and select WCG project you would like to participate in. My recommendation is to check "If there is no work available for my computer for the projects I have selected above, please send me work from another project" - this will keep your PC supporting WCG even if there will be not work available for sub-project(s) you have selected. As other mentioned, Sustainable Water already finished (OK, it will in few days). Take in consideration how much time a day (or a week) you are planning to support projects from WCG: - HCC (Help Conquer Cancer) has shortest working units (WU's), but also shortest deadline to report them (7 days). - All other WCG sub-projects have 10-days deadline to report result. - CEP2 (The Clean Energy Project - Phase 2) has average length of WU's, but long steps during which your work will not be saved. So, if you turn your PC off at some point (let say after you have done 67% of work), you can find you are starting again form, let say, 15% after you turn PC on. - I am having problems with Say No to Schistosoma (SN2S), GO Fight Against Malaria (GFAM) and Drug Search for Leishmaniasis (DSFL) on my Mac OS X - reporting lot of invalid results. There are not problems with them on my Win XP. Good luck and hope your support to WCG will last for many years ![]() ![]() Crunching@Home since January 13 2000.
