The only 2 sciences at WCG that use AutoDock are FA@H and HFCC. The plan is to upgrade the AutoDock version for FA@H. That said GFAM, now running on VINA, will be getting a second reprocessing pass on the new version of AutoDock. Ah, the GO Fight Against Malaria project page described AutoDock Vina, which is apparently not the same as AutoDock: However, the source code, the scoring funcion and the actual algorithms used are brand new, so it's more correct to think of AutoDock Vina as a new "generation" rather than "version" of AutoDock. (http://vina.scripps.edu/manual.html#faq)So the ability of Malaria to run on the troubled machine doesn't really test anything. Oops. However, the AutoDock site provides downloads specifically for OS X Tiger, Leopard, and Snow Leopard. I would interpret this to mean that AutoDock "officially" supports OS X up to 10.6. (http://autodock.scripps.edu/downloads/autodoc...todock-4-2-download-page/) One would think that if AutoDock was causing problems for OS X, it would have been noticed by now. Looks like more of a coincidence now, that both problem projects cited here (FA@H and HFCC) are AutoDock projects. [Edit 1 times, last edit by a_mobile_humanist at Sep 27, 2012 9:29:25 PM] |

It could be a coincidence. I had over 24 hours uninterrupted, but then it crashed again, this time on a Rosetta@home task, which I know I've run successfully since updating the system. However, I ran the longest and highest-level hardware test available to my computer, and everything checked out, including the RAM.
So far I'm no closer to an answer than when I started. I'm starting to wonder if it really is BOINC in general, and that the frequency of the panics and the tasks they're associated with are misdirecting my attention. But I also feel like I would have seen something in my searches if BOINC was causing this problem. That still leaves the possibility that there's an extension causing me problems, which seems like the most likely thing at this point. But I don't imagine this is the place to ask about that, so I'll ask elsewhere. Thanks for everyone's help. |
