Re: GPU and Badges

I think current badge formula is great

Another thing, we need more high-level badges!

Re: GPU and Badges

while contemplating the 60+ Beta GPU results that I have recently returned, yet only 20 hours of run time. That means it will be a loooong time, before I ever get to see at least the bronze badge.

Just for information, with my multi-core CPUs, it took me years to earn some badges for Beta.
Cheers,
Yves

SekeRob hinted that higher badge amounts are coming in the future, no time frame was given though. He said he thought no one will have the highest level, so it must be pretty high!!! So I am thinking 500 years or more!!

Wish my words were not misremembered, a frequent occurrence and more than often then the incorrect information being repeated by the next. Was talking certificates levels...nothing else!

We need to be more reasonable and sensitive to the changing pattern in crunching. How can we consider it fair to award same badge to someone who completes 200 tasks and other 20,000 tasks of same project particularly when someone is investing in better technology to speed up the project. biggrin

Re: GPU and Badges

thebestjaspreet,

[:Big grin], you have to "do time" here, like Cool Hand Luke did, and considering that someone is already clocking 9 concurrent GPU tasks off 1 7950 card, that's like a 9 core computer. That gets you to a 1 years badge in 41 days or so, doing 24/7 [:Big grin]

edit: spellcheck

Re: GPU and Badges

IMO, badges are nice frills and warrant no more developer/maintainer time which might be spent on higher value activities. The points being wherein we'll show contribution to the thing. Apologies to Shakespeare and Hamlet.

That is very true but badges give individuals a reason to compete both with themselves and against others. It gives them a 'target' to shoot for, a goal to get, bragging rights, etc, etc. It means NOTHING in the end, but as humans we need some kind of ego massaging every once in a while. Even when we lose it is nice to hear someone say 'nice try, we will get them next time' for example.
