Can anyone please point me in the direction of a FAQ perhaps, where I can find the definition of how run time/prj is calculated? I am trying to understand the statistics better, but having contributed over 50 days so far on Cure MD I am still rated as pre-bronze with only 9.95 days per prj.
----------------------------------------Here are the rest of my stats: Many thanks Dave [Edit 1 times, last edit by dustydave at Sep 26, 2012 7:07:12 AM] |

RunTime/prj is defined by SNURK as part of his Globe sigs. If you look back through the pages of the thread https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread_thread,29840 you will see there have been lengthy discussions on the subject. RunTime/prj is your total runtime todate divided by the number of science projects run by WCG since inception - currently totalling 21.
----------------------------------------209 days RT / 21 Projects = 9.95 RunTime/prj |

SNURK-signatures includes all WCG-projects, not only the ones you've returned any work from. So, with 21 total projects since beta isn't counted, 9.95 days means your total WCG-contribution is 208.95 days. edit - slow typer. "I make so many mistakes. But then just think of all the mistakes I don't make, although I might." [Edit 1 times, last edit by Ingleside at Sep 8, 2012 9:53:27 PM] |

Many thanks for your replies - I had been searching the forums for ages trying to find information. Reading every post isn't really practical :) so thanks for the link and explanations.
I didn't realise run time / prj was not a WCG standard, just created by SNURK for the sig block. |

Reading every post isn't really practical :) Agreed! Check out this post (and the next dozen or so) to see other peoples comments and SNURK's responses. https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewpostinthread?post=367838 |

I was losing the will to live after the first 10 pages, so this link is really useful to have available to point others to in future as well. I'm getting to understand the intricacies of the detail in the sig block now as well - the 22 little bars right at the bottom for example. Although I have worked on 6 projects I have only achieved badges for 3, as reflected in the bars. I think I understand the rationale behind the division by number of total projects, so I guess the bottom line is, if you want a new globe colour for your run time / prj, you need to put the processing power in. Right, off to build myself the next generation PC. As an aside, would I be better off going for a quad core or 6 core machine? All other things being equal? |

I like this ranking of overall WCG achievements. I started with WCG 2,5 months ago and after less then 2 months I have reached SNURK's Bronze Globe (shrubbing on 6 cores on 2 PC's).
----------------------------------------Badges, thus SNURK's Globes are solely dependant on running time. So it is better to run WCG on 6 core comp (can expect ca 5,5 days of running time per calendar day) than quad core. Cheers and NI! Crunching@Home since January 13 2000. The more the better! Of course there are things to take into consideration, as higher cost (both computer and electric bill) and probably higher temperatures. But if you can afford that, I see no reason for not going 6-core

This thread is now getting off topic, so I'll close it. Just to finally add though, I have now built a new PC, using an AMD FX100 Quad core CPU with 4 Gb of RAM and a solid state drive to run Ubuntu 64-bit. Similar work units are now completing in less than 2 hours compared to 8 hours on my dual core laptop.
Thanks for all replies - much appreciated. Dave |

More non-WCG standard stats [as in, WCG does many internal but wont publish, (fine by me)], if you look up one of the WCG charts, http://bit.ly/WCGMEM, the global statistic for active members is about 33 hours contributed per day, was 35 hours. For now, think it's a post-holidays dilution effect... more active, but less time. Not spend effort in analyzing.
